Where was the vaunted 12 package?

So, @Teague31, was the point of the thread to say we weren't in the vaunted 12? Or that it wasn't effective? It sounded like you felt we weren't using the package. Given that we did in fact use the package quite a bit, do you still think the Escobar pick was a waste as a result? Or was it a waste for a different reason, then? Or maybe not a waste at all?

My own opinion on the topic isn't changed. If we're going to feature 12 and 13 sets heavily, we obviously want three capable TEs healthy at all times, and the pick makes sense as a result. For a team that struggled in the red zone and with it's running game in critical situations, the multiple TE sets make a lot of sense. My only frustration is devoting three 2nd rounders overall to getting that backup to Jason Witten. That's a heavy price to pay, but it's on the organization, and not on Escobar.

Its a shame because Escobar probably has a TD if he doesn't lose a shoe just as Romo releases the ball. That's either a PI or a ball only Escobar gets his hands on. The Cowboys had the matchup they wanted there....

What a lot of people didn't realize from the get go is that even going to a 12 base offense, it doesn't mean that Hanna and Escobar are going to get the equivalent targets that Hernandez received when he was with the patriots. Especially not early in the season.

Unlike the Patriots we have two wide receivers who we think really highly of, and we're actually trying to develop some players behind them. Running backs also seem likely to play a large role in our passing game.

This means the amount of targets these guys get are going to be somewhat limited. Doesn't mean they don't have an important role to play. When their numbers are called, we need them to deliver.

I'm not loving the Escobar pick so far but I will say 2 things about the guy.

1. He is really big.

2. He catches everything.

i think some people don't like escobar because they felt someone else should have been picked there. but that has little to do with the player himself. i can understand thinking we needed a different position there in the 2nd but people really have to look at the player, not where he was drafted and honestly evaluate how he fits. i don't see how anyone can say he does'nt fit but i do understand thinking we had other needs at that spot. people just have trouble seperating their feelings about where he was picked and his game

Out of our 75 offensive snaps, we had "12" personnel on the field for 30 of them, "11" personnel for 32 of them and "13" personnel for 10 of them. The other three plays had no running backs -- two plays with four wides plus Witten, and one play with three wides plus Witten and Escobar.

Escobar got 20 snaps on offense.
So the offense we ran the most was 11, which is shotgun, 3 wr, 1 rb, 1 te correct?

Thats exactly the same as the previous couple of years, and we were playing with the lead the entire game. Thats really problematic imo, especially since we averaged more than 4 ypc

Another breakdown in addition to Adams. 37/72 in either the 12/13 or S12/S13. That's 51% of the total offensive snaps.

Did we run the pistol and how would it be accounted for above if we did?

I also want to point out that Murray had a decent night running on the left side and middle. Not so good on the right. Hopefully adding the new LG will strengthen Free as well.
