I'm exactly where i want to be, Arlington. Low COL, great business environment, abundant entertainment and dining options in Dallas and FW (heard that we have more restaurants in Dallas per sq mile than NYC), lots of tourists visiting Six Flags, Lone Star Park nearby, First Place Texas Rangers, the Water park, and now Jerry World. Right down the road a bit you can catch the Mavs, Stars, some Sucker team or another, i don't follow that "sport." The climate does tend to be extreme, with barely tolerable heat(steam) and occasionally violent storms in April/May esp, but it keeps things interesting during the off season. I've really enjoyed the time I've spent in Seattle and if I had to chose another spot I'll go with that. Maybe Hot Springs, Ar as a retirement locale down the line.

BTW, anyone considering relocating to DFW, you should choose your spot with care, particularly if you have school age children. Dallas ISD may not be for you..consider Arlington, Plano, Grapevine, Southlake, Allen, Frisco, FW, Mansfield. Look into the city govt issue in Dallas, too. Messy politics...the Dallas Chamber Of Commerce would not approve of this post but it's not unfair imo.

McKinney, TX

My dad lives there and has no family that he is close with. I'm also his only child.

This is actually a long-term plan for me, as long as I can talk Kilyin into it!

He has a shop there with an apartment in the back where he lives. Next door there is an empty lot that is about 1/4 city block, and he knows the guy that owns it.

He also knows some contractors that will build the house to his specs, which would be in the middle of this really nice Arts & Crafts neighborhood.

We also planned to build a little bungalow on the lot for his mom to live in, so we could have her near us as well.

I work remotely, so location isn't an issue for me, but he's concerned about finding a job, of course.

Plus our current situation is allowing us to save some good money, so that will be hard to give up.

Mexico. Beach front house.

Was offered a position down there about 5 years ago. Wishing now I had taken it. The guy who did has it so easy. My wife and kids did not want to learn Spanish. Now, after a couple of family vacations down there, they would love to go. Too late.

I have a similar story.

Once I was offered a job.... on the Moon.

My kid didn't want to learn...get this....Kingon.

Definitely San Fransisco.

Denver is great too, but I can't stand cold winters now after living 6 years in NY.

In keeping with Bags' moving to Boston theme........

If you could just pick up and find the equivalent job right now, where would you move to in the US. And most importantly, why?

Currently I live in the suburbs of Dallas, but I think I would move to Denver, or just north of Denver to a town called Fort Collins specifically.

I really like Dallas, but two things about it just kill me.
1. The summers are absolutely brutal. I start sweating in mid May and don't stop until the first of November. I start cutting grass in March and don't stop until thanksgiving.

2. No mountains. Hell, I'd settle for a few hills. I love mountains and everything they offer. I'm into skiiing, hunting, and first and foremost, fly fishing for trout, so the mountains to me is pretty much where I would spend all my time if I could. I have freinds who take their vacations and sit on a beach somewhere and bake. I'd rather slam my fingers in a car door than do that. If I have vacation, I'm 7000 feet high, fishing a cold mountain stream.

If you've ever been to Fort Collins, its a small town, college town, but its very family driven, very little crime, bike paths everywhere, and its pretty much dedicated to all things outdoors. Its probably the nicest place I've ever been to raise a family.

I could see myself there in the next 5 years or so.

Your turn.

LOL

Water activities for me all the way. In Colorado the water never really warms up (what few reservoirs they have). The only place Ive ever heard of where you could die of hypothermia in July.

Words cannot describe how much I hate that place.

And in Colorado you wear coats from Oct to May, forget that, give me the heat any day. And F them mountains, id rather have the beach, and 4 seasons. I lived in Aurora for 10 years and it was like a lifetime

I love living in Scottsdale except in the summer. I've travelled many places in my job and it's made me appreciate it more.

If I could make a living, I'd like to live in Billings, MT. Nice size, clean, safe, four seasons; close to Yellowstone and outdoor activities I like.

Denver, Austin and several towns near Seattle on the Puget Sound are also appealing.

Chicago is like a 2nd, well 3rd home for me. Fam lives there. I go up there all the time. Love it.

Obviously don't care for the big winter storms, but I love the snow.

THis is essentially what I actually did in 02. I had to get out of central NY, I couldnt leave fast enough which is saying alot when my entire family is there.

We packed up and moved To DFW. I love it. It has been great for us.

as far as the weather goes I loved the weather in central ny in the summer, fall and winter....The spring is just miserable, depressing, grey rainy....terrible.

I loved the snow and I am so glad I grew up there, I wish my two kids could experience the snow storms. Making a 10 foot snow hill in the backyard with the snowblower and then sledding down it etc......Great place to have fun with your friends.

And on the flip side, in DFW the winter is miserable, grey, depressing, brown grass, hardly any trees etc....but the spring is fantastic and the summer is great, I like the heat suprisingly. The fall here is entirely different from the northeast, the northeast fall is one of the most scenic things there is, here in dfw it is basically just a cooler summer!

I like it in both places, I cant imagine leaving here but at the same time I have this small crazy idea in the back of head that maybe someday I can work in TV or Film production efficently enough to live in Southern California, but that is no time soon.

Probably California. San Francisco area.

Or Denver, but I'm not sure I could do what I do there.

The Oregon coast, in the Reidsport-North Bend area...

Or the Sangre de Cristo mountains, northern New Mexico... not in Taos, but in that area...
