I am in Dallas and wouldn't move.
Bottom line is Texas is consistently ranked with 4 or 5 of the top markets for pay versus cost of living almost regardless of field.
If I weren't dealing with expenses then I'd live in South Florida or the Portland area.
My wife is from NYC, still has most of her family there and would never move back. Quality of Life is completely different and worse. And living far enough outside the city for affordable and nice housing means unmanageable commutes. I've worked for many NYC companies and it's a great place to visit but no way I'd ever live there. Their was a mass exodus of NY'ers to Texas as the company opened this site because the 300K they'd have in equity bought a house here that was brand new in a new housing area, with much better schools and 3K sq ft and a pool. In NY they paid private school rates, 3x as much for their houses and dealt with 2 hour commutes for the most part.
