I am in Dallas and wouldn't move.

Bottom line is Texas is consistently ranked with 4 or 5 of the top markets for pay versus cost of living almost regardless of field.

If I weren't dealing with expenses then I'd live in South Florida or the Portland area.

My wife is from NYC, still has most of her family there and would never move back. Quality of Life is completely different and worse. And living far enough outside the city for affordable and nice housing means unmanageable commutes. I've worked for many NYC companies and it's a great place to visit but no way I'd ever live there. Their was a mass exodus of NY'ers to Texas as the company opened this site because the 300K they'd have in equity bought a house here that was brand new in a new housing area, with much better schools and 3K sq ft and a pool. In NY they paid private school rates, 3x as much for their houses and dealt with 2 hour commutes for the most part.

THis is essentially what I actually did in 02. I had to get out of central NY, I couldnt leave fast enough which is saying alot when my entire family is there.

We packed up and moved To DFW. I love it. It has been great for us.

as far as the weather goes I loved the weather in central ny in the summer, fall and winter....The spring is just miserable, depressing, grey rainy....terrible.

I loved the snow and I am so glad I grew up there, I wish my two kids could experience the snow storms. Making a 10 foot snow hill in the backyard with the snowblower and then sledding down it etc......Great place to have fun with your friends.

And on the flip side, in DFW the winter is miserable, grey, depressing, brown grass, hardly any trees etc....but the spring is fantastic and the summer is great, I like the heat suprisingly. The fall here is entirely different from the northeast, the northeast fall is one of the most scenic things there is, here in dfw it is basically just a cooler summer!

I like it in both places, I cant imagine leaving here but at the same time I have this small crazy idea in the back of head that maybe someday I can work in TV or Film production efficently enough to live in Southern California, but that is no time soon.

That's generally been the take of the majority of folks I know who have moved from NY or Chicago. Texas is a lot less expensive than either place and it's pretty easy to get used to driving everywhere, having lots of space and just living with AC on all the time, even in parts of the winter.

I'm young, so I'm still drawn to places that embrace debauchery. I just moved to Seattle, less than 2 months ago, and I love it so far. I could definitely see myself somewhere else in a few years though, Chicago, New York, San Francisco, Boston...they all sound great. Before I decided to move to Seattle, I was this close to moving to Buenos Aries, so I'd be open to the international scene as well.

To those who were talking about Ft. Collins, I lived just a few miles from there in college. It is a fantastic city, absolutely top notch, whether you're artsy, outdoorsy, foody or drunky. It's a great city.

I the US. Arizona, southern Texas, Hawaii, someplace not too crowded in FLA (if that exist). Definitely some place with long hot summers.

Outside of the US. Belize, Baja peninsula, Australia.

Living in Florida the past 20 yrs has been awesome. I would not want to live anywhere else. I am 30 minutes from Vacation Attractions in Orlando and Tampa, an hour to the Gulf Beaches and an hour and a half to the ATlantic Beaches. IF I could get some South Louisiana Cajun food here on a regular basis, it would be paradise.

The best part about living in a tourist attraction area like Central Florida is that at the end of the day of doing all kind of things, I get to sleep in my bed.

And to the poster that mentioned crowded places in Florida, there are lots of place in Florida that are not crowded. Just stay north of Miami. Now that is a different world.

I am not from the city though. The reality is, where I live now in mansfield is nearly identical minus the weather to where I am from Utica/new Hartford ny area.

Friendly people, lots of stuff going on, good schools etc, conservative.

Except you know the prosperous buisness, pro sports teams, great weather etc....

I like both places and find them very similar but umm, the cowboys are here!!
