To move up to 2, you'd have to swap first round picks this year, throw in a 2 or 3, trade them Ware, and throw in a 1st and 4th next season. But if you think this guy will take you there, why not? You have to think about what your picks have done for you lately, and I'll say it's made us mediocre. So if all those picks the last 5 or 6 years have made you mediocre, why not trade this year and next years major picks for a QB that will take you there. And IMO, it's not a gamble, you're trying to make a move to get a difference maker. It may or may not work out, but who cares when you were crap anyways.

Anything can get done if you have two parties willing to make it happen.

Oh my, if they traded up to # 2 to get manziel, I would quite literally vomit...I don't want him under any circumstances anywhere NEAR this team, and to trade the farm for him would make me go postal

I hope to God that they have some common sense and draft some defensive players early and NOT give them up for a bench-warmer...he will not start over Romo this year or next unless the back is shot and Tony can 't go...IMO, that is how you will be able to tell if Romo can't go, the Cowboys will kill themselves to get a QB...

anyway, to answer the OP, guys that I think will be there later (4th+ round) are: Brett Smith (Wyo), David Fales (San Jose St), Zach Mettenberger (LSU), AJ McCarron (Alabama), Jimmy Garoppolo (E.Illinois), Tajh Boyd (Clemson), Aaron Murrar (Georgia), Logan Thomas (Virginia Tech), Stephen Morris (Mia-Fla)....some of these guys could go late 3rd and into the 4th, but some will be around in the 5th or 6th, possibly later

Thought the general consensus was that we wanted Jerry Jones to stop making these sorts of moves.

He's a bandwagon-riding, fair-weather fan. Either we make a crazy move and it works or it doesn't and he just turns off his TV. He's fine either way. Well, fine is a relative term; anyone who watched last season and came away with the conclusion "need to sell the farm for a QB" is likely closer to "disturbed" then fine.

Although he had a bad senior bowl and I am not an CF expert I really like Boyd from Clemson.

What's it going to be then, eh?

Any QB who is afraid to compete at the Senior Bowl, is talking about skipping the Combine and thinks the Grammys are "demonic" is not someone I want as the QB of this football team.

The front office has a realistic chance of drafting many eligible quarterback prospects. The real question is whether Jerry Jones & Co. will do rigorous evaluations of all quarterbacks, slot them properly on their big board in rounds one through seven, and pull the trigger if the situation is right.

Due diligence could potentially land you a Peyton Manning, Russell Wilson or Tom Brady, but it is not necessarily the first, third or even as late as the sixth round that a team should target. It is identifying the right man for the job.

I don't watch a lot of college ball and was wondering who you think we could get in the later rounds who could turn out to be really good? What about the kid from Georgia?

Any qb outside of Bridgewater,Bortles and Manziel. But i think Manizel may fall a bit due to character issues. This is a good qb crop and i truly due believe we may need to draft one this year.

Except murray beat Mettenberger head to head and is a better athlete. Not to mention Mettenberger has character issues. Which is why he didnt play at UGA in the first place.

What? Russell Wilson beat Payton Manning head to head so what does that mean.

Any QB picked in this draft is stupid...

DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE.

If I am not mistaken, there will be a 2015 draft next year. and there will be QBs to draft.

We say the same thing every year. If the opportunity arrives we need a successor. Im tired of banking on Romo every year without success, not even a playoff birth. I want someone new... Romo is already well into his 30's and is probably one hit away from being out of the league. This team need to play smart and start building their deck for the future.

Every player in the NFL is one hit away from being out of the league. Bad analogy. I'm all about drafting the QB of the future (another bad analogy) this year, but only if the price is right. This team needs young depth along the defensive line, among other areas. The Cowboys can't afford another fantasy football type draft.

Folks keep missing here. We are drafting Orton's replacement if we take a qb. Ideally we get a decent player who someone wants to trade for in a few years. Think Matt Cassel. That is the more realistic goal

Wait. We're looking to draft a backup quality QB? This is the plan?

That's not my plan. Draft the next franchise QB and if he needs a year to learn, keep Orton. Otherwise, the rookie will be the backup.

Lol noooo that isnt what I meant. I can see why it may look that way though. Bad wording on my part. They both went to UGA at the same time. Murray was beating him out head to head for the starting job and Zack got kicked off the team for sexual battery, underage drinking , fake id,resisting arrest.

For that to happen we have to be ready to draft a QB in ANY rd,I don't see that happening.

Murray was 1-9 against top 15 ranked teams. That's why he's compared to romo. Either way, it's a team game. Head To head matchups aren't a big factor when evaluating players ability to translate to the NFL. If we're looking at qb in rounds 5-7. Mettenberger would be a good selection. 6-5 pure pocket passer. Only reason he would still be there in the late rounds is bc of his torn ACL so he will miss the combine. Better size and arm strength than Murray.
