Which Cowboys need to be re-signed?

Morris Claiborne, Williams, and McClain I would say.

Williams has been playing some dang good football since week 3, even factoring in the fumble. Still think Dak needs to hit him on a deep route more, from what I've read, there have been some shots.

Williams its all about the money. Truthfully, WR's like that are a dime a dozen. I would move on and sign a bargain veteran. Dez and Beasley are one and two.

WR T. Williams - Decent WR but will demand more money than he's worth.

S JJ Wilcox - Having a better season than usual but far from irreplaceable.

TE Gavin Escobar - Can't even beat out JAGs like Swaim and Hanna.

CB Brandon Carr - Decent CB. Was overpaid. Getting old. We'd survive.

RB Darren McFadden - Bye.

LB Andrew Gachkar - Decent specials teams but not much more.

DT Terrell McClain - Priority #2. Our best interior DT this season. Should be affordable.

QB Kellen Moore - Whatever.

WR Brice Butler - Not sure a guy off the street couldn't provide more.

LB Rolando McClain - Doubt he ever plays another down in the NFL.

CB Morris Claiborne - Priority #1. Turned into elite CB. Would be a huge loss.

DL Jack Crawford - Nothing special but plays the game right.

RB Lance Dunbar - Zeke's receiving skills makes him redundant.

OT Charles Brown - Whatever.

CB Josh Thomas - Nothing special but we'll need depth if we lose some CBs.

S Barry Church - We're a stud SS away from an elite secondary. Church != stud.

OG Ronald Leary - Better than Collins but older, less upside and will want more money.

DL David Irving - Gotta bring this guy back. Will be cheap. Easy since RFA.

RB/FB Rod Smith - Whatever.
So you wanna keep 3 of these players? I am sorry but this is the kind of post that shows that fans don't value players unless they are bright and shiny.

Trying to replace everyone else would be ridiculous. We will sign:

Williams
Wilcox
Carr
Gachkar
McClain
Claiborne
Crawford
Butler
Dunbar
Church
Irving
Smith

and maybe Leary.

And you will be disappointed.

Way too early....lets enjoy the ride

But the cap won't be an issue......DAL has 50m in cap space next year

From BTB, here are the players whose contracts expire after this season:

CDmUTBw.png

RFA's:
David Irving
Rod Smith

3 of our 4 starters in the secondary are FA's...... yikes.

Who should we keep and whose numbers do we delete and never contact again?
Subject to change but I'd say;
Mo, T-Will, Terrel McLain and Butler . Wilcox and Crawford maybe. And Leary and Church if they aren't too expensive.

Mo will be our highest if he continues improving . T Will is playing his way to a second contract too. Many were writing him off. Everyone else is replaceable except maybe Leary who is a great backup who can start. Church is solid but we have depth there now. We'll keep him or Wilcox but then when you can draft a Brown in 6th round it's easy to reload.

You don't want to lose continuity or chemistry though. Look at the Panthers.
Players like Gachkar, McFadden, J crawford, Sanchez, dunbar, Escobar, Thomas can be replaced with better fits. R McClain has to go because he is a Moron. T will may be too expensive and can be replaced in draft where WR class is deep. I would consider butler as long as he comes cheap. I just want the SS position to be upgraded and the safety class is deep as well. So draft one before the 6th round.

We need to decide what we are doing with Romo before thinking about FA next year.

I didn't say I wanna keep only 3. I'm saying there are some players who we sorely can't lose and others we'd survive without. For example, I'd like to keep our entire secondary intact. But the only one of them who is truly irreplaceable is Claiborne. Same with the D-line. Of the guys on the list, I'd like to keep about 90% of them.

They can be replaced but I wouldn't replace them just to do it. Sometimes continuity is better. If you can get some of those guys to play for vet. minimum contracts I see no problem bringing guys like Crawford back.

He's going to get at least 4-5 million a year. We can't afford that. It's too many resources in the OL. Martin is going to get a contract similar to Frederick. The rest of that money must go to defense !

If he only wants 4 million then he should be retained. I was thinking more like what Parnell got.

Ah, so THAT's why the secondary is playing lights out this year!

Funny how that ish works.

Before the season, I assumed Carr, Claiborne and at the very least either Church or Wilcox would be gone.

Now.....it's like which one can we do without? Worst case next year we have Scandrick and Brown but I think we might need at least either Carr or Claiborne back. At safety I think Heath is signed for a few more years, so we likely only resign one of Church/Wilcox and probably bring back Frazier.
