Nicely done. I can easily see this. Unless, of course Spencer or Brent through a wrench into it by coming back and playing well, relatively quickly.

It would be much better if Spencer and Brent didn't become active until mid season.

If they go long at DL, I hope it's not at the expense of staying with 5 at WR, I was hoping they kep 6.
But wouldn't doubt they go will 8 OL, and also one short on the DB's or LB's.

Just wanted check in and ask about Ben Bass. What has happened to him? I haven't heard anything regarding him at all this TC. Is he still hurt?

I get what you're saying, but I don't necessarily agree. Hayden played more snaps (I believe) than any DL on this team last year. That was a problem. Now, if he is just a healthy rotation player with experience in this system for 2014, we could still have a better overall unit. Health, like last year and the year before, is a huge issue. I think we will have a more solid group overall. We won't be top heavy with a huge drop-off after the best couple of players. We were trotting out guys just signed off the street (that week) for significant snaps last season. IF guys like Spencer, Lawrence, and maybe Okoye can return before midseason, they can possibly give this D the boost it needs to be pretty solid for the second half of the season. Lots of "ifs". We all know that, but I just see many more capable DL players on this roster than last season. We had Hatcher, and Selvie to some degree, playing at a pretty high level much of the year and that was it. Ware was an injured shell of his former self. Hayden was not very good as the season wore on and played way too many snaps. The rest were a bunch of bodies. It's amazing that we had a winning record going into that last game (a credit to our offense and special teams).

you don't get it: Hayden is NOT a player that is fit for anything other then the practice squad; if he is rotating in then we are weak. Simple as that.

I think they will go ten because Marinelli wants a rotational system and we seen to always have injuries along the Dline. I would bump out Hayden and Rayford. To me they haven't really done much except take up valuable space.

He practiced at the beginning of TC but is now out with a hamstring injury.

Ok. Then we disagree. I think Hayden was decent early last season but got progressively worse as the year went on. I believe he was dealing with an injury and was probably just wearing down. Either way, I think (when healthy) he can be a serviceable rotation player. The coaches seem to like him. Personally, I would rather a young player with more upside make the team, but I don't think Hayden making the team is some automatic indicator that we won't be better than last season on the DL.

I'm not a big fan of Hayden and would prefer to go with young players; however, in the videos that I've seen of TC practices, he looks quicker than last season. I think he was dealing with an injury most of last season (?ankle) and I've heard that he lost some weight.

You're been around long enough that you should know the rules. They can't put anybody the PUP that has taken 1 rep in training camp. That leaves Lawrence out as a possibility for the PUP. I think Gardner has a few practice reps also which makes PUP a no-go for him also.

They could put Lawrence on the Designated-for-Return IR; however, he has to be on the 53 after the initial cut before they can move him to dfr-IR. At that time they can bring back a player that passed through waivers. The problem is that he can't return for 8 weeks and his injury might only have him out for 4 weeks.

Okoye is on the NFI list. It's similar to PUP, but I think they can return to action at anytime without the 8 week wait. I think Brent could be put on NFI also.

Generally, it's more likely that a UDFA will clear waivers than any draft pick, including a 7th rounder. They would have a better change to retain Bush on the PS than Bishop unless Bush does something spectacular in the preseason games.

It appears that Crawford has been practicing more at DE than at DT. If he is considered a DE, then you would have the following if you switched Bush and Bishop:

DT
Henry Melton
Nick Hayden
Terrell McClain
Davon Coleman
Ken Bishop

DE
George Selvie
Jeremy Mincey
Martez Wilson
Tyrone Crawford

Situation DE (Nickel)
Kyle Wilber (does not count against the total DL number because he is the SLB on base downs)

Practice Squad
Dartwan Bush

My mistake, I thought players were eligble for the reserve pup list at any point before the season started.

Sorry I don't care much for Spencer. I just think going with someone younger is the best thing for the club right now.

Going to have to go heavy, think ten or more. Part of that is because they have to carry Lawrence.

I have no idea who will make the team out of camp, but I have a solid estimate for the number of DL players we will use this year (thanks to injuries): eleventy billion. And three.
