Which franchise tag for Pickens? Exclusive vs non-exclusive

I don’t think the team has ever once used the non exclusive tag.

If Jerry wants to keep the player, he doesn’t want another team negotiating the deal he would have to match.
Jerry often out bids himself when he wants to keep a player.

It may be better to know what other teams are offering. Which could be nothing, with 2 first round picks involved.

Wasnt there a case, 5-10 yrs ago. A team used the non-exclusive tag. A team negotiating put a "poison pill" in their proposed contract that really nailed the other team....
Tyrick hill deal???
I would gladly take the 2 first round picks. Poison the deal all you want.

Send him to KC? While they are my 2nd favorite team that’s a horrible idea. Give Pat someone like Pickens and they are SB bound for sure.
Make Buffalo, NE and KC fight over him. They may be more afraid of the other team getting him, more than they actually want him.

That might be. I just don’t recall it ever being mentioned that any of those guys were non exclusive. It’s possible I’m wrong, but I’ll stick with one thing….if Jerry wants to keep the player he won’t want to have to match a deal someone else offered him, so Pickens probably gets the exclusive.
Why not? The deal might very well be less than what Jerry is willing to pay.

I would not be surprised if no one made an offer that included 2 first round picks.

I don't mind nonexclusive, let other teams bid for his services, and let's see what his value is..

If it's less than everyone thought, then the agent and player might step back and take something close to what the tag is 28 to $30 million and be happy, But at least they'll get to see it, and the Cowboys will get to see it where is his worth lands.

This gives them time to negotiate and negotiating from a place where everyone has actual information on what others think of George Pickens other teams in the way they go after him will tell us everything the offers, he gets and again if it's then that works out for the Cowboys.
And if no one puts in bid?

I don't know what Jerry has done historically with exclusive or non exclusive. But the overwhelming tags are non exclusive. Remember when they tagged Pollard? Of course that was non exclusive. If some team wants to give up 2 first round picks for him, they'll take it. Dak would be exclusive. DLaw was probably exclusive. It depends on the player.
Whatever Jerry has done historically has not worked.

I'm sorry to have to correct you too many times,

I do not write and last I checked this is not something that I'm being graded on in school, this is not a work product, This is not even something I'm doing as a moderator, or anything...

I am not doing this as a semiprofessional or professional writer,

this is simply social media I think of it more as the Wild West We just all have opinions and whether we have short ones in 75 more posts split up into smaller sample sizes or we can have just a few of them that are really long but last I checked there are no rules there are no formats that would be Twitter there are some other places that will limit you but not here this is a full powered forum,

But once again,

I do not write I use talk to text and that's how sometimes it just goes off the rails, Those extra-long ones are just rants, they're coffee comas, and I get triggered around here just as much as anyone else,IE venting,

getting tired of the redundant posts,

like right now ,

the most redundant post is talking about George Pickens..

so I will go off the rails sometimes tired of seeing the same old same old Whatever happens with George will happen, and I appreciate either way if Jerry decides he it will help the team, he will trade him, get a first round pick ,get extra money ,and rebuild the team, if he stays here at a reasonable cost, then it helps the Cowboys either way, and as a fan I'm happy..
No one read that.

Well, I just that the Miami Dolphins are outright releasing Tyreke Hill, I know he's coming off an injury but that should water down the market a little because somebody's going to take Hill over bidding for the services that George Pickens.

I'm just saying when the market gets flooded with a few more players there may be less of a market which could favor the Cowboys IMHO

Or the Cowboys can trade George Pickens and pick up a guy like hill For a bit less maybe, I don't know his recovery time but I'm betting we can wait on it a little bit..hmmmm??
31 vs 24. Hill is not in competition with Pickens.

I’d prefer the cowboys keep Pickens but if another team wants to give up 2 1st round picks I’m not exactly going to cry about it.

Give me the non exclusive tag all day.
Hell they can give 2 second round picks, or a 2 and 3 id be happy sheesh

I agree with Werder. Another team could put some kind of poison pill in the contract that the Cowboys couldn't or wouldn't want to match.

Considering the history with big contracts, the Cowboys should just franchise tag Pickens. It will be a big enough challenge to get it done and signed by the season opener.
Not possible......Took awhile to find this....but it's worth the read...and a good trip down memory lane.

If you know ahead of time that you're serious about trading him then you give him the non-exclusive tag.

[Archer] Cowboys fined George Pickens multiple times last season

This is how the Cowboys negotiate contracts in the press. Get ready for another Micah situation.
I would hazard a guess that getting this out in the media will not get Pickens to accept less. I believe it hints that Dallas believes that Pickens will want a larger contract than Dallas is willing to pay.

This is not rocket science. They should sit down with Pickens, ask him what his is expecting, and if it is more than Dallas wants to pay, say go see what offers you can get.

Give him the non-exclusive tag. Tell Pickens to hunt a market early on in the process. Get what you can out of Pickens and move on.

Pretty sure Pickens will say talk to my Agent.

I would use the non exclusive tag. He can negotiate with other teams. We have the first right of refusal or 2 first round picks.

Seems like a no brainer.
I can understand why some would but to me, he's worth more than the Pats, Seahawks, Broncos or any bottom-round playoff team's two first-rounders. I have said this before.....I am not sure I want him and Lamb both on long-term deals coz I don't know which one I'd rather keep. If it's going to cost me $28M or a long-term market deal for Pickens to find out, so be it. It's a good problem to have......this time next year, I may decide it's Pickens, not Lamb, who is a better fit for this team going forward.
