Which is it?

For the 23rd straight time we’re heading into conference championship weekend knowing the Cowboys will once again be watching instead of playing.

And apparently for the 9th straight year, we will have Jason Garrett’s robotic face and tired talking points once again leading this team as its head coach. And maybe worse, his unimaginative OC will be back calling the most vanilla plays for the most vanilla offense while we all watch the best, most imaginative offensive minds battle it out for NFL supremacy once again.

So help me with these questions after another frustrating playoff end-

1. Is this year just the beginning of something that leads to a championship? A young team on the rise? Or...
2. Is this the “Garrett ceiling”? Is this a perennial “pretty good” team that can only top out with a wild card win? We have 8 seasons of evidence. Is this the best we get from Garrett?

Which is it?

I wish I felt differently, but after 8 seasons, I think Garrett has topped out. Especially if he’s coming back with his OC who calls the most predictable game in the NFL. I love this team’s youth, and defensive talent but COACHING MATTERS. And if the same cast of characters return to coach, why should we expect something different?

I believe Linehan will be replaced since Stephen Jones announced no positional coaches have been reviewed yet. Same with Moore. I also believe with a better quarterback Dallas has a chance to make the NFC championship game.

Ya know, I used to be pretty critical of Garrett, but I think he's really started to do his role well. We need better coaching around him.

We need a good QB Coach, OC, free agency, and draft. We're so close it hurts.

I’m pretty sure JG has topped out but JJs the boss and he pays the bills.

I’ll keep supporting the Cowboys because that’s what I....we do

Championships? Who said anything about leading to championships ?

I’d go with “Or “...

By Jerry’s Bar this era 2018 was a successful season Cowboy fans.We should be discussing the great turn around and how exciting that was winning the division. And we won a frikin playoff game. Are u kidding me? Lol

This notion the only measure for success with this dysfunctional organization is a championship is bizarro world. Really ... y’all don’t get it yet? Wow

I see the division championship gear is being discounted. Don’t forget to add to our #1 revenue. Boss Hogg thanks you as he sails around the world in his new toy.

The events of today really show it ain't gonna make any difference who the head coach is. Anytime a HC can't decide who's on his staff, there's a deeper organizational problem. What HC worth a dang would even want this job?

:hammer:

I've come to the conclusion.... Garrett is your head piece. Fine. Your not gonna change that. But boy...you can change your coodinators. And Linehan, Marinellie and Richards need to go.

It was so apparent vs the Rams our staff was in over it's head...it wasn't even funny. We just don't make any in game adjustments...and in today's league...you got to do that. It's a chess game. And we are content to let other teams just pick our guys off one @ a time.:(

His ceiling isn't what worries me. How often he gets this far does. Three division round losses in 8 seasons. A 37-43 record the other 5 seasons. Even in his 3 successful years he never overachieved. The Cowboys went either as far as expected in the playoffs, or less, like in 2016. Never more. Unlike the 9-7 Giants going into the game against a 15-1 Packers team and defeating them as an example.

To get something different, we'd have to see a philosophy change in both team building on D and drafting.

I am going with #2. Garrett has removed all doubt.

It depends on Dak, really. I know to the homers he is already walking on water. But the reason the running game didn't work this last game was that the rams sold out on the run and were daring Dak to throw it deep. It's just like gruden said, and I paraphrase, your flaws will kill you in the playoffs. Dak is good enough to get you to the playoffs. Good enough to win a wild card game. But is he good enough, right now, to win a division game? I know the question was about Garrett, but as long as we will always have a puppet coach, whether its name be garrett or campo or whatever, it'll be up to the quarterback to grow beyond the coaching.
