Jaylon turns 26 in a month. Vander Esch is 24. Both should be in the early stages of their career.

There have been many occasions in which a Cowboy player started their career with a series of injuries only to come back strong. in fact, they may even end their season as a very reliable player. Michael Irvin was hurt two seasons in a row and the last one took about 18 months to completely heal. By the time he came back, there were some who thought he would be nothing more than a backup. In his first three season, Michael missed 25 of 48 regular season games and his best season out of those three was his rookie season, 32 catches for 654 yards.

In his 4th season he had 93 catches for 1523 yards. During the five seasons from his 4th to his 8th, Michael Irvin missed only two of those 80 regular season games.

Speaking of linebackers, Ken Norton Jr. only played in two games his rookie season before going on injured reserve. The following season he ended up on injured reserve again, though later in the season. In all, he missed 17 games in his first two years. From there he would go on to miss only one regular season game during his remaining 11 seasons, that's 1 game out of 176.

If the Cowboys are switching to a 3-4 base defense as reported, then the Cowboys don't need less linebackers, they need more. There will be plenty of room for both veterans plus Parsons, Cox, and Neal.
