No disrespect, but the season isn't over and I'd like to know what maybe realistic before I start talking draft.

As far as I know, we will have the 32nd pick this year. Maybe? Maybe not? But I'm not concerned about the draft at all right now. If I were a Jets or Texan fan, maybe, but I'm not.

Not apposed to it at all...I just hate draft talk in the same sentence as play-off push talk.

To me talking draft right now is like saying the season is over already.

But USC linemen get me nervous...ya know...LOL Never the less, I haven't started my scouting yet...haven't had a chance to watch much college football this year.

I like Eric Winston and if he falls to #32 I would consider him....
I think Center will be our biggest need on the OLine .
I feel A good off season for Pettiti and Flo back next year will fix the Tackle spot...

I don't think center is a big need...Al Johnson wasn't playing any better earlier in the season when the o-line was fine. If you want to pick one up in the later rounds to replace Gurode and possibly challenge Johnson fine but you're just not going to get that big of an upgrade at center no matter how high you draft one, regardless of what people here think of Johnson.

I like both Scott and Winston. Here's why...with the speed of the DE's in this league...most of them at the RDE position, we need a very athletic, quick LT. Both Winston and Scott fit that model...looking at Walter Jones type OT....very athletic and very quick feet that can handle the speed rushers.

Put a dominant/big powerful OT on the right side...like Flo to handle the bigger DE's. I would feel better having Flo go up against Strahan...and an athletic lighter LT handle the Giants RDE, and the other speed rushers.

This is just my theory...right or wrong...thus the big reason I want Flo on the right side.

I dont follow the draft and I dont even know anything about these players but what our chances of drafting these guys? We will not have that high of a pick this year and I would be interested in knowing what are the projections on these young men.

Most have Ferguson as the top rated tackle with the potential to be the first pick...after that the scouting boards go back and forth between who 2-5 are...but i'd expect at least one of the top to be availale to us...

Scott...very quick and athletic...most experienc of all, may be the best fit for us, if taken for LT.
Winston...top athlete
Mcneil...huge, but athletic
Joe thomas (Jr)...supposed to be an incredible athlete...wouldn't mind this guy.
Whitworth...I think projects more as a good RT

Being a UT fan, I've seen a lot of Scott, and he'd be my preference... after him, I am intrigued by the sheer size of McNeil, and the fact that he can move some for a player that size...

After Jacob Rogers, I've kinda lost my taste for tackles from 'SC, and to be honest, both he and Justice have borderline size for my tastes at tackle... the same's true of the top-rated tackle on the board, D'Brickashaw Ferguson... what a cool name, and I'm an avid UVa fan, but he's still listed at 295 pounds...

That's Al Johnson size... the Brick needs to add at least 20 pounds to be successful in the NFL...

We should target a fellow to be our LT of the future - if we like one above the rest, I would not even be against trading up to get him if we believed a superlative one would not fall to us. Good LTs are very hard to find and this draft has an abundance of them.

He can start at RT if Flo is ready to go next year and make the switch the next year when Flo will be in the final year of his contract.

I would not be against giving Tucker and Pettiti tryouts at OG - if they can't cut it there they can provide depth at OT.

I'm not as inclined to use our high round picks on WR or FS because I believe you can find quality players at those position later in the draft - LTs are very hard to find.

Forget Ferguson, were not trading up I dont think

Marcus Mcneil

Height: 6-9 | Weight: 338 | 40-Time: 4.97

Official Bio

Strengths:
A massive mountain of a man who is an imposing physical presence...Has a large frame with long arms, big hands and a wide base...Tremendous athlete for his size and has great feet...Moves laterally extremely well and is tough to get around...Does a good job getting to the second level of defenders...Good playing strength...Smart player with top intangibles who wants to get better...All-around player who is a major factor as both a run blocker and pass protector.

Weaknesses:
Will play too upright at times due to his height...Has some medical issues with his back and neck that will have to be cleared...Will get caught leaning...May lack a nasty demeanor and killer instinct...Will get lazy and lose concentration at times...Needs to refine and become more consistent with his technique...Is not as explosive as you would expect a guy with his dimensions to be.

Notes:
From a measurables standpoint this guy is off the charts and exactly what you look for in a stud tackle...Could project to either the left or right side as a pro...Experienced and has led the way for some great rushing attacks...You simply can't teach the type of size and athleticism this guy brings to the table.

Should be in our range should we go OT early.

I'll wait to see how the combines turn out but there are several very good Tackle prospects out there this year.

Hey ABQ, I don't want to hijack the thread, but I've been reading about this Hank Baskett from New Mexico. Can you or any other locals tell me about him? Is he really 1st round worthy like I read? He does sound like a Parcells-style WR in that he's big and claims he likes to block.

Oh, to answer the question, McNeil if we want to keep Flo where he is. But I like Winston a lot, and would *think* about putting him at LT and Flo on the right. But I bet he's gone before we pick anyway. There's a good chance McNeil will be there because he's not the quickest guy.

Hey Lab,

I love Baskett. Is he first round material? I don't know about that. Depends on how he runs. If he times well, he may have the opportunity but right now, I'd say he's probably a 3rd or 4th round guy. All could change with good workouts. He has size and hands. He is willing to work. Doesn't show up on the APD Blotter so that's a plus. I'd take him without a doubt. I like Baskett and I like the Center Ryan Cook. I think he will projecet well to Tackle in the NFL.

I have a slight interest in Eric Winston, but he seems to be injury prone and my interest is waning. At one point he was really highly rated. He might be the climber that happens at every draft or he could plummet. I really think it will be one or the other with him and depends entirely on the Sr. bowls and Combines.

I'd love Marcus McNeil because he's huge and plays nasty. I think that nasty style is what separates good from great in the NFL.

Some drafts rate Scott real high. I am not near as comfortable with him.

The best OT is D'Brickashaw Ferguson but he will be the top OL picked.
