Nolan Smith baffles me.

He didn't have volume stats in college, but everything else was there. Premium position, freakish measurables (at a position where measurables really play), great per-snap stats, quality tape vs top-level competition, experience in an NFL style defense....

Someone tell me why that's not a top 15 resume.

I think it had to do with scheme. Most of the nfl runs a 4-3 defense, and doesn’t have a spot for a sub-250lb DE. So it was either going to be a 3-4 team that would use him at LB, or a team that has a unique role for a player like that (Dallas, Phi). You’re not taking a backup to Micah in the first round, so you went NT, and Philly was the next spot.
