I think it had to do with scheme. Most of the nfl runs a 4-3 defense, and doesn’t have a spot for a sub-250lb DE. So it was either going to be a 3-4 team that would use him at LB, or a team that has a unique role for a player like that (Dallas, Phi). You’re not taking a backup to Micah in the first round, so you went NT, and Philly was the next spot.Nolan Smith baffles me.
He didn't have volume stats in college, but everything else was there. Premium position, freakish measurables (at a position where measurables really play), great per-snap stats, quality tape vs top-level competition, experience in an NFL style defense....

Agree.Funny that the Lions cut him on getting to 53, managed to get him on their practice squad and then moved him up in November and he got 8 sacks in the last 7 games of the season.
