Which position can we afford to wait to the 5th to address?

we need to face the fact that we need at least two drafts to fix this roster.
Maybe three if the morons in the Front Office keep refusing to use FA as they should
Holes can still be filled in FA. However that won't elevate us to more than a 9/10 win team

You are correct though. If we even want to be at 2021/22 levels, it will take at least 2 strong drafts

This. Fans need to stop acting like the team is a couple players away. The team even with a good draft and based on the current roster is sub 500. Focus on the trenches but dont reach. And hope your scouts have earned their money this year.

RB is by far our biggest need just because there's just nobody there at all, but its also the most likely to find a starter in the 5th, particularly in this draft. I don't necessarily want to wait, but on pure efficiency if you have to fill all those holes its the one to wait on.

All that said just take the best player available where you know they'll get snaps.

If we go WR or DE 1st, it gets really difficult to fill other needs. If it was me, Id look and see whats on the market I can add post draft. CB seems strong there, so I would deemphasis that. I dont like the available WR's, but I like Keenan Allen. Id try to get a handshake deal done with him before the draft
We have seen how this front office operates in fa, 1yr low level deals. Will the remaining fa's take that type of deal or wait for something better?

I’d probably go RB. Give me the more expensive positions eary and then double dip at RB later. Could even use your multiple 5s to trade up into the 4th.

Could probably add guys like Tahj Brooks, Devin Neal etc in the 5th.
This.

I am happy with Brooks or Ollie in the 5th

Im hopeing to see Parsons at LB on run downs more. I want to see rookie year usage. If we draft Williams/Stewart and they feel good about Kneeland, that may actually be possible. Downside would be how long as it been since Parsons has actually played any real LB snaps?
Don't forget about Turner who they signed, he has always been better against the run in his career. I think that ship has sailed moving Parsons to LB. Two DC's decided against it.

I like both of them, but very possible they go in that 3rd to 4th rd range.
Listening to Voch, a few names will slide. Run on RBs start around the 3rd but it’s plenty deep

I am doing cartwheels if we land something like

Golden - Schwesinger - Collins - Gordon.

I dont want to be that hopeful optimist, but with the space we have I can see us spending $ on a short term guy like a Keenan Allen or a Kendall Fuller.

I think we all would take this is a second.

Could be right here, but maybe Eberflus see's it differently with his emphasis on LB play. Or that could actually make him less inclined given Parsons hasnt really played the position in 3 years

We just haven't seen them do this in the past. Hell, I would love to bring Cooper back for a short-term contract too.
Im actually concerned Cooper might be gassed. Just didnt look like the player we traded away when I watched him in Buffalo. As a WNY native, I was actually excited that he may propell them on a legit run.

If I had to be money on a guy they would add it would be Lockett. But at this stage in his career I dont think he is any better than what Cooks gave us. He may even be a downgrade

He probably follows Pete post draft

You have to fix the run defense, adding another late NT does nothing to fix the problem.

Are you comfortable starting Bland, Elam and Carson/Muku with zero depth?
You lost me.........OP question was what position can we afford to wait and address in the 5th.
* First, we are not fixing much with a 5th rounder at any position.
* More times than not top run defending teams gets strong/high-level play from the LBer positions.

Here is an interesting site that breaks down individual stats by players and positions. It's interesting to see when we look at leaders of solo tacklers, assist tacklers and total tacklers, only a few DTs rank inside top 100. It's why I have said many times, fixing the run defense is just as much systemic as talent, maybe more so.

As for CB, notice the post stated we have starters for 2025, and we do. Now, if we want to address the replacement for starters, that's another topic. But addressing OP question, we are't desperate for 2025 CB other than replacing Lewis at the slot. That, as a rule, is generally a mid-late round player.

Those outside runs have been a problem for a few years, it starts with Parsons setting the edge, having linebackers not getting caught up in the trash and corners who can tackle in space. All three levels have struggled, Parsons has improved but other two have been liabilities.
They've been a problem since after LVE's rookie year.........it's not a coincidence our best run defense teams were led by Sean Lee and LVE, TWO high-level LBers. Find one, and many of our run defense issues will disappear.

The UCLA backer who be the ideal fit this team needs at the position, I worry he goes late rd 1.

I agree about having strong Linebacker play helps the run defense.

As for corner, we have no idea when Diggs returns next season. Elam was a 1st rd bust by the Bills and Bland/Carson both missed several games due to injury last season. Butler our best backup tore his acl late in the season.
