Which position should Crawford play?

If it wasn't for the Watt bias in the media, Crawford is a shoe in for Defensive Player of the Year

Are you serious? He played well this season but I wouldn't go that far.

Crawford was one of the bright spots on defense.

I'm just trying to figure out how the OP didnt list staying at 3 tech as an option. He excelled with quickness and effort all year, 1 tech certainly isn't the answer for Tyrone. Let him bulk up with 5-10 lbs + a full year of experience at the position and he'll be a border line pro bowl level player.

What we need, and it boggles my mind that the coaching staff doesn't see it, is a big strong guy in the middle who commands double teams. When your 1 tech (Hayden) is getting blocked by 1 guard or getting pushed 5 yards downfield by a double team it makes the entire front 7's job a lot more difficult.

I think tc had a decent season in his 1st as a dt.However i dont think he set the world alight and definately wasnt the force we hoped he would be in the playoffs.
That being said could he bulk up 10lbs and man the 1 tech position if we were to say come up with an amicable agreement with melton for next season or draft a 3tech like mike bennett?
Or could he drop 5-10lbs and move back out to lde?
I no he has switched around a fair bit in his short career so maybe a full offseason working as a 3tech would be the right thing to do?Im just looking at some scenarios whch might affect how we aroach the offseason and the draft

He is a better 3-tech than the vast majority of rookies would be. He needed better players around him. Nick Hayden is a great team guy that is Mr. Hustle, but he is one of the least talent 1-techs in the NFL. Envision a 1-tech the caliber of Donkey Suh (Suh plays both the 1-tech and 3-tech) next to Crawford.

Also, in the Cowboys scheme, they need to quality 3-techs in the rotation.

All pro. wow.

Let me tell you, Tyrone Crawford was incredible this year if you watch the All-22. I wouldn't say he was better than Suh this year. And Dareus plays in a different scheme. But considering that he got little help for the first 12 games, he was incredible to watch this year. And the only thing that prevented him from getting 10+ sacks was some barely missed tackles.

I don't think DT is really an issue if he's playing and is healthy. However, if we can't find a DE in the draft that we like, I wouldn't have a problem with another DT if they are available just to help alleviate some of the attention away from Crawford.

I do not scoff at anybody suggesting he should have been on the All Pro team. I think it's terrible that he didn't get a vote.

Crawford's production doesn't match his effort or effectiveness. However, he was completely invisible in this past game - T.J. Lang and Josh Sitton had their way with him.

At his size, his snaps need to be managed in order to maximize his effectiveness. This is why bringing back Henry Melton isn't such a bad idea to have two 3 techniques that can play high energy snaps each time they are out on the field.

Even with those two, they need improvements at DE and the other DT position. Possibly multiple bodies if they want it done right.

So confused by what's going on in this thread. From the OP to the overreactions the other way that I think are tongue in cheek but can't honestly tell.

Crawford's continued his development into a very solid player, though. He's a quality young piece on a DL that doesn't have enough pieces. He's gonna stay at 3-tech, though.

hold on here it is again for you to read 1 more time

Now i dont know how educated you are on the english language but do you notice the gammar? They are what is called a question mark.It mens a question is beng asked not a statement is being made. Now given that crawford has been moved around a fair bit i was asking the question as to whether he has found his niche or whether the coaches might think about moving him back to end or if they thought and any1 on here had any ideas as to whether he could the 1 tech with success depending on how we address free agency and the draft.
Now say for example mike bennett is there highest ranked player on there board when they are on the clock-do they look to other prospects and draft for need or have they already spoken about the idea of taking bennett who is a 3tech and maybe moving crawford to 1tech or end?

Your question is provoking thought of 1 poor game. He was a dominant force in all the other games. So yes, I think your question is ridiculous.

As others have already stated, Crawford is fine at the 3 tech. The problem is the cupboard is bare at the 1 tech next to him. When you role out Nick Hayden for 18 games you are going to have issues in the interior.

its nothing to do with any poor games, its just merely a question as to have the coaches actually settled on a position for him or could he be as effective back out as an end or sliding over to the 1tech

"However i dont think he set the world alight and definately wasnt the force we hoped he would be in the playoffs."

He was our most consistent defender all year - He exceeded everyone's initial expectations as far as pressures and being a high motor guy. Did he have a poor game against Green Bay (stats wise) yes, but I don't think sliding him over to a new position would be the right decision considering his recent successes.
