I have a hard time seeing this. Matter of fact, it wouldn't surprise me if they go long at WR, perhaps 7 total, if they are weaker at another position, and leave themselves the flexibility to modify the roster going into week 1. I seem to remember something like that when they surprising kept Miles Austin and Sam Hurd on the roster as undrafted rookies.

Maybe they keep 6. No way do they keep 7.

Excepting an injury before the season starts. Dez, Williams, Harris, Beasley and Street are locks based on production for the vets and draft status for Street. That leaves maybe one spot. Who knows what happens there, because health and the perceived chances of slipping someone through to the PS will determine those. They might go long if they really think they have something, I think we're going to be able to carry one less OLine then we have in the last few years. My guess is the starting five and Berny/Weems/Parnell. I think they probably think that Berny is the interior backup and Parnell is the swing tackle with Weems being still a project. Means we're not carrying Costa.

I'd say there are 1 1/2 spots open.

Harris at 80%
Beasley at 70%
:D

Street is going together one spot.
So so do is gonna half to really shine to unseat Beasely or Harris.

Seems like the OP thinks all of them are worthy. I'm not so sure. Street is odds on favorite and I doubt that we keep more than 5. We likely go long at DL and LB.

I'm hoping you're just saying this to be provocative. Harris is a lock because of special teams play alone, but it certainly doesn't hurt that he's also a useful WR.

He's my favorite player on the team. Dfw should know that.I know he's destined to thrive w/ New England at some point.

Harris is not a lock. Don't forget that it is the WR position that Dallas wants to develop. As far as special teams don't forget that JJ Wilcox can also return kicks and punts.

Harris is a proven entity as a PR, KR, and coverage guy. Harris may not have quite the hands or route-runningso ability of Coley-Cole, but he's equal to or better in all other facets of the game. I think he's a lock. I dont see what makes Beasley such a lock. He finds little openings and makes the catch but not much yac. If one of these tall rooks can find an opening, make the catch, show some ability with the ball in his hands, AND play ST, then the Beas era is over. Beasley is good at what he does, but its a very limited skill set. Beasley's a short-timer. He's got a year, tops.

silly to think one of the top return guys, our best defender on special teams, and a solid wr will not make the team. just shows some fans really have no clue

I think Newsome and Benford have the least chance to make the team.

I agree. The longer you stick around on practice squads and such, the harder it is to actually make the roster unless you just show vast improvement.

There's always going to be a player who knocks you back to the practice squad unless you just make a big jump, which doesn't happen that often.

But what if JJ gets his block knocked off on a kickoff return?

I agree on Harris. I disagree on Beasley. His ability to get wide open out of the slot for quick receptions is what makes him valuable. He does a great job of freezing defenders because they can't figure out if he's turning in or turning out. These other receivers we have are more long striders who will make plays downfield, even Dez. Bryant will beat you from point A to point B or outmuscle you for the ball, but he doesn't have that quick-twitch ability that comes in handy when you're running out of the slot and need just a few yards on third down.

That obviously doesn't make Beasley a better player than Bryant just a rare commodity for this team.

Seemed to me Beasley was used almost exclusively on third downs that were relativity short and almost always was targeted wehn he was on the field. He did a good job converting when targeted, but I think teams where beginning to figure him out towards the end of the season. I also remember he had a pretty bad adjustment on a route that led to a pick. He may be expendable this season. Although, i think they had him working on PR in OTAs, so I don't know...

He's the backup PR right now to Harris. I'm not sure teams were figuring him out (maybe) and he did do a poor job of finishing that one route that led to the interception, but if we get rid of every receiver on this team who has run a poor route leading to an interception, then the only ones we'd have left are the newcomers.

His job value, though, is being that third-down, short-yardage receiver. As long as he continues converting those, he'll have a place on the team.

Benford has a shot with the absence of Miles Austin. He's the most experienced of the group in terms of being around the team.

Likely, a receiver will get hurt in training camp, which would open the door for a guy like Benford.

I think there is a good chance that they keep 6. They probably go short on OL and long at WR and DL.

Dez
Williams
Street
Harris
Beasley

Byrd / Boyd / Washington (Washington might be an option to start on the PUP)

They don't have anybody with demonstrated ability to replace Harris as a returned and top ST coverage guy.

Beasley is very limited, but was very valuable in 2013.
