Which would you prefer?

In doing my own 'wannabe GM'ing' one idea keeps coming back to me:

Trading the Cowboys' 2nd round pick to the Giants for disgruntled defensive end Osi Umenyiora.

I would much prefer this move to franchise-tagging Anthony Spencer but I wanted to know what the rest of the forum thinks.

If it were your choice, which do you prefer:

1) Franchise-tagging Spencer

or

2) Trading for (and paying) Umenyiora

For purposes of clarity, please keep any responses to just these two choices.

Thanks

(And if someone wants to change this to a poll, please feel free!)

How much does OSI want- but I certainly would prefer him to Spencer.

The GMEN would trade to a division rival? No I don't think so.

I voted for signing to long term deal but that's with the idea in mind that we can work out a quality, fair, contract that we're not breaking the bank to keep him.

I don't mind the idea of trading for Osi but that would completely depend as well on how much does Osi want?

Are you playing him at OLB or DE in the 3-4? If he's OLB do you feel that he can hold up against the run and cover when needed from that side?

I would love to see the 2 old teammates playing together. Ware and Osi back together again.

I say franchise Spencer but approach the draft like he's not on the roster.

Losing Spencer & a draft pick seems like an awful waste.

trading for Osi is a TERRIBLE idea
leave aside the fact that we would be giving our rd 2 pick to the giants, he is not good against the run and that is a big part of SOLB responsiblity

i voted to sign spencer long term with 2 caveats

1) we upgrade the DL with a true NT and DE that can put pressure
2) upgrade secondary (both CB and FS)

I mentioned in another thread that I would throw in a 2013 4th rounder if it meant sealing the deal.

But that's just me.

Sign him. He's the best SOLB available now and for the foreseeable future.

This!

The most popular option selected in this poll is obviously the one that has 0% chance of happening. So all we've learned is that this is a bad poll.

Best answer so far, IMHO. At that rate, if Spencer's replacement falls to you at 14, then you let them battle it out. IIRC, Spencer can be cut before the start of the season under the FT without any cap implications, yes?

I think as soon as he signs the tender it's guaranteed. If his agent is worth a damn, he'll make sure Spencer signs it before the draft.

Letting Spencer go just to draft or sign his replacement is like me cutting off my hand so I can replace it with the GI Joe kung ** grip hand.

Or it could be a simple process of moving on from not good enough and seaching for better.

I realize the Stephen King like horror of life after Spencer, but I'd be willing to face it. Don't extend mediocrity.

I went with the option to get Osi.

I went with other. I don't want Spencer under any scenario nor would I part with a 2nd round pick for what would be an aging one dimensional pass rusher in our defense.
