Left tackle. It is a top three position in football, along with quarterback and defensive end/pass rusher. The other two are already established. Tyler Guyton was drafted to fill Tyron Smith's vacancy and shall eventually do so but he is not 'The Man' yet. He must become The Blind Side protector for this offense sooner rather than later.
Agreed. Guyton vs. Richards vs. Tyler Smith (if necessary) ... anything to keep Edoga off the field as the starting LT.

Truth is that we need a lot of young bucks to step up, so if any of them falter, we may be in trouble. Lots of unproven players who we need to prove themselves.

Which young buck battle are you rooting for the most? Which one would devastate you if they don’t win it?
  • QB - Trey Lance vs Cooper Rush
  • RB - Rico Dowdle, Deuce, TBD vs Zeke
  • WR - Tolbert vs Turpin vs Brooks for #3?
  • TE - Schoon vs Hendershot, Phillips vs Hendershot
  • OL - Pick one. All starters except Zack and Tyler are probably up for grabs.
  • DT - Mazi vs a tree stump
  • DE - Sam Williams, Marshawn Kneeland vs Tank
  • LB - Is there enough depth to even have a battle for all 3 spots?
  • S - Thomas, Bell? vs Wilson and Hooker
  • CB - Top 3 are locked. Battle is for depth.
I am not sure there are going to be any battles.

From your list of choice id go with the ends.
Id love to see that tank gets benched. Will never happen, but i love to read about the controversy if one of the two others plays great.
We will have a four man rotation. None of them will be benched.

Throw the young TE Stephens i think his name was, into the mix, was hurt, but turned heads. Hope they mix him in as TE & WR....
A mismatch heaven, and a blocking WR h@ll for a CB out wide.
Hopefully he added some weight.

Hopefully he added some weight.
That would make him another TE only, vrs a move TE, Novacek type, that present MM a chance for mismatch plays that a Sean Payton would love.
Stephen size and speed down the seam would be fun to watch, threat would take doubles away from CeeD
....but do we have a trigger man that can process all this? Offense is simplified for a reason

May the best man win.

The only one I'd be genuinely excited about is the least likely, Lance shows out and becomes our next qb.

I think the battle for backup TE's is going to be exciting.

Really, I feel as if there are at least four of them with the potential to make the team, although perhaps two or three will make it. Whoever doesn't make it still has measurable NFL talent.

If the Cowboys wished to be proactive when it comes to picking up extra draft picks, they would speed up their selection process at this position and trade. Then again, a TE always seems to be stashed on Injured Reserve.

Of course, this preseason will determine Trey Lance's progress or lack thereof. I can't help but imagine the incredible advantages if he should really shine. No matter what Dak's future happens to be, having a young quarterback with elite potential has massive value.

I think the O-line battles will be a little unfair with the current draft picks given a huge advantage over the rest of the current squad. That's just the way it usually is, especially for a #1 draft pick.

What do you suppose Jerry values more, having the best guy starting or appearing competent as an NFL GM? I don't have the answer when I shouldn't even have to think about it.

I am also hoping that there is that improbable emerging star, the next DaRon Bland or Jay Ratliff. The Cowboys have been fortunate in their history to come across lower draft picks and undrafted rookies who played huge for them.

Could it be another DB like Carson? Could the Cowboys have stumbled upon their future Pro Bowl DT with Justin Rogers? Is WR Ryan Flournoy the true steal in this year's draft?
While the rest of the league is in scramble mode to find the next Travis Kelce, we have been very diligent in the TE dept despite the early negative feels floating around on Schoon.

If Schoon checks in we get uber deep at TE with ceiling and we must make room, this roster has the ability to cut any RB on the roster during trim down to accommodate even more value at TE.

Young TEs with a high ceiling hold optimum value.

I am looking forward to the OL. I really like our draft but I also think Bass can play in this league so i think it will be a good battle. I hope Lance shows very well. It could lead to Prescott not being signed which is the best thing for the Cowboys or at worse, he will get a good contract next year in FA and we will at least get a good Comp pick back. If he sucks then Dak is resigned and we will get nothing for Lance next year.

Beebe at OC and Guyton at LT , if these guys establish themselevesand win start roles, we will have a young , powerful OL , which will help run game and in turn will help passgame. PLUS Zimmers no nonsense D with better LBplay will create a few stops and that will help us win games

For me it’s kneeland, it would really help if they hit on a DE.

Also the OL, if two of the rookies don’t start, it’s not a good sign. I still view Tyler as a rookie and worry about his foot. So Beebe would be awesome if he can come in for an injury or when Martin retires. In the mean time if Beebe can play C, that’s a home run. I’m not sure if Guyton will just slide into LT or if Tyler is still in consideration. Then can guyton play guard? Can 7th round Thomas surprise us all and end up starting at Guard…is Tyler and Guyton being bookend OTs a possibility?

At Lb and Liugau and Overshown play? The team needs them.

Who is the #2 and #3 WR. I’m not sold on Cooks, Dak can’t connect with him. Can two other guys pass him or at least move cooks to #3

Who’s the RB, is Dowdle the guy or can some udfa beat him out. I assume Zeke will only be short yardage. I’d really not like to have Zeke start.
