While few realists would admit to it...

Wade can help himself out by building a power house OLine. Pressure off Romo, and pressure off the runners. The defense will be fine.

I had not thought that BP had been up for the HOF yet. Is it a 5 year thing for coaches as well or not?

Actually, I stand corrected, Parcells was nominated for the induction class of 2001 and 2002.

uh oh - is this 3 positive switzer posts in a row? record time?

switzer was told he'd be a fool to change much of anything - so he didn't. then he was a fool for "standing pat in the ever changing game". in the end he still won a superbowl and that can't be luck. he also got nailed for "disicpline problems" - but when was the white house around? when did eric williams have his wreck? when did irvin start his habits?

i don't think switzer helped the behavior issues but they were not all at his feet either.

I think Switzer was is a good coach but fact is he has never been known as a disciplinarian at all and it shows up over and over and over at OU with players constantly getting in trouble and then in Dallas. Fact is Barry should have been coming down on the players when these incidents started happening. I'm not saying it was all his fault but when wheels start falling off and you sit there and do nothing then that is a problem. Even Aikman complained of a total lack of discipline why you think Troy would say that as a player

no i agree that's switzers "rap" - but we had several problems before he got here and johnson didn't do anything as far as i know. it's just funny how a "rep" can either get you through something or tied to it for life.

Dallas players were not getting in trouble at the time other than Eric Williams getting involved in the car accident. Problems with Irvin, Lett and some others where not showing up as of yet. We don't really know what would have happened had Johnson remained it may have all fallen apart anyways but it can't be denied that Switzer was dealing with major problems at OU and in Dallas. I don't think that is by accident, Barry let guys pretty do what they wanted which also PO'ed Aikman

well if you're buying house down the street from valley ranch for the purpose of wild parties, it's not like johnson was curtailing things either. i don't deny switzer's lack of discpline is / was an issue - i'm just saying that johnson had his share of wild people running around also. from there's it's speculation as to what would have happened if johnson were around. i'd have to think sooner or later the same types of things would have happened.

Things may have fallen under Johnson as well we just don't know that for sure or how Johnson would have addressed the problems taking place. We can guess but we don't know. Again when players like Aikman are complaining about a lack of discipline from the HC that speaks volumes

Also, it's not like guys that didn't do drugs, or guys that didn't visit prostitutes, or guys that didn't partake in that lifestyle suddenly decided to start doing those things just because Switzer became the coach.

Switzer probably stuck his head in the sand, but I bet Jimmy was too.

BTW Dooms, I am not a huge Switzer fan either, but I do give him his due for what he did here.

Actually inheriting a winning team is a very hard job to undertake.

Does Phillips really have that much to live up to in following Parcells? He went barely over .500 and didn't win a playoff game here. What he did in NY is irrelevant.

Like Wade said himself, you'd rather take over a good team than a bad one any day, so you can start winning. This team isn't the 2003 that had less talent than it appeared to have -- now following that team would have been tough.

This team is just the opposite. It's been undercoached. Phillips should do roughly as well as Parcells, and maybe even better. And I do think we'll get that first year pop from a new coach, if he can get his defense taught well enough quickly enough. But he's been able to do it at his other stops.

Good post. Can't be said any better than this.

agreed - if he can remotivate the defense and put some fear back into the players (like roy williams) and use players properly (williams and ware) i think that will help the offense.

romo did well having to get counter TD's much of the time, but he shouldn't have to. the games where we play "last team to score wins" in a shootout should be the exception, not the month+ long rule.

By simply attacking more we will cause more turnovers, and 3 and outs. This shortens the field and gives the offense an advantage. Yeah, it has risks. I think the rewards are greater than the risks.
