Who can we get next year as far as FAs with this spending spree?

People like to say we bought championships in the 90s, but it's not true. That team was built through the draft and trades. Even if there is an uncapped period, the recipe for winning will still be the same - DRAFT WELL - churn the roster.

Any sort of an uncapped spending spree will be a bad idea.
The 49ers and Broncos are teams that really bought their championships. Both circumvented the cap in the years that they won.

I mean what guys are available.Players are gonna get P.a.i.d! Who is out there ?This is like the big 2010 in the NBA.Big FAs out there to grab. No salary cap. Jerry is gonna grab a few big timers.

The top eight playoff finishers from the previous season would be allowed to sign free agents only at the rate at which they lose them.
• Players would need six NFL seasons to be eligible for free agency, rather than four.
• Each team would be allowed to restrict two eligible free agents with "franchise" or "transition" player tags, rather than one.

I actually think the owners are hoping for 2010 to be uncapped just for the reason they can dump some salaries of players who aren't producing without any ramifications to their team. Remember, very few NFL salaries are guaranteed. Signing bonuses is money already long gone. Cutting a player making a $5 million base salary means $5 million dollars you no longer have to pay.

totally agree with that, also the owners want the money back that they gave up, at one time like the owners were giving about 50% of profits to the players, but the players with upshaw got like 62% of the profits with last new deal

im sure that either hostile or adam can straighten me out on the percentage;

anyway, the owners have said that they want it to go back to where it was, but the players say no!

thats where the stalemate is, so i see a uncapped year

I think they should continue looking for bargain players who are hungry than overpaying already fat cats looking for a large pay day.

The rate will drop no way the players keep 62%; They will settle some where in between after some in fighting my guess is somewhere around 54-56% I can also see some new rules around signing bonus and the draft pick salaries

An uncapped 2010 will not be the spending spree many envision.

More owners will use the year to dump salary with no cap ramifications and then try to "go cheap" to force the players into a CBA that is more beneficial to owners.

As for Austin and Spears, both will be RESTRICTED FAs in an ucapped 2010, so there's no real need to sign them long term.

Seems pretty simple but most just don't get it so we have meaningless threads about "spending sprees" that will never happen.

Most do not even know about the playoff teams restriction on signing FA so no surprise there.

I'd be first concerned about signing our own guys. I'd like to see Spears, Sensabaugh, and Bowen resigned, and certainly something must be done with Austin. Decisions will also have to be made over guys like Kitna, Hurd, Holland, Hatcher, Ball, and Watkins.

After all that is all said and done, the only position that I'd really take a long hard look at is FS. K. Hamlin has done nothing, and Watkins along with being a FA has done even less. SS was addressed well, and I look for Sensabaugh and M. Hamlin to man this position for years to come. It's time now to fix the FS position once and for all. I'd look real hard at either Nick Collins/Green Bay or Antoine Bethea/Indy, and then look to the draft for a big versatile CB to slowly convert to FS. A kid like Myron Lewis/Vanderbilt behind Nick Collins would be a formidable combination.

I know people will say he is on the wrong side of 30, but I would love Richard Seymour here for a few years.

But why? Our defensive line is pretty good as it is. I don't want to stop Spears' growth to bring in someone over 30.

I would like to take a stab at one of the Landry brothers as FAs next year if they're available. If I'm not mistaken both Dawan and LaRon are going to be available.

Also, LeBron James was once an All-State WR in high school....he'll also be a free agent in 2010 :p:

No big name Free Agents please. Give me another Keith Brooking or two and stay away from the big name, big contract players. We don't need them and I don't want them. They are instant chemistry issues because they think they are the missing piece.

There's a reason it never works in DC.

Ummmm, i dont think Jerry spends any money on Big name Free Agents..... Especially old ones.

I am inclined to agree with both here.

Although if I had to take a shot at it I would say Julius Peppers and Ware would be dreamy.

This is what I want...

-Resign Gerald at SS.
-Resign Spears at DE.
-Draft a LT of the future.
-Draft a ballhawk FS.
-Draft some quality OL depth.
-Possibly get another WR to give us another option at the 3-5 spot.

No huge names.

No huge contracts.

None of that silly business.
