Sean Payton

Like the Harbaugh's Payton would have never been given enough control to have success in Dallas when he first became NFL head coach. He would have ended up another Jerry Jones yes man back in 06 had he taken over the Cowboys. The only coach mentioned who would have had success with the Cowboys is Andy Reid because he was an established NFL HC like Parcells who had a successful track record and Jerry would have respected him. Reid wouldn't have taken the job unless he was given enough say to have success. A first year NFL HC is not going to succeed under Jerry this team needs a big name coach who's going to be allowed to win their way not Jerry's way.

I think Sean Payton could have won the show here, especially if he followed Parcells and the structure that Bill created helped keep Jerry at bay for a few more years. That was probably the only hope.

I can tell you who may have ended up being considered the greatest Head Coach of all time if he would have stayed.

based on the parameters of the OP, it's payton or garrett...

Bill Parcells

I think a couple of more years with him at the helm and this team would have been a serious contender.

Instead, and as he predicted, within two years of his departure, it was as if he was never here.

Butch Davis......I always thought he eventually would have been given the reigns and done a good job. But then again....W/ him being an alpha male.....Jerry would have felt threaten...so there was no way he would have been hired.

I think you're probably right, though I think Romo is actually more talented than Brees. Tony isn't a guy who fits into and knows how to run a system like Brees. Certainly similar arm talent, but I think Tony is a far better playmaker than Brees ever has been/will be.

Brees has a real coach in Payton.Tony sadly has been saddled with Garrett.

I want say Sean too. But he had/has Brees. So I don't know if it works here with Romo.

Romo was his first option before Brees, He offered a 3rd round pick and Jerry wanted a second. Sean would of probably done it but I imagine it was difficult trying to convince Loomis(gm) to give up a second round pick on a unproven back up QB. Just another one of those what If's in Romos career. I think the two would have had better success in New Orleans than here.

Other than Garrett and Payton, what about Aikman?

On the current roster, Romo and Lee come to mind, assuming Tony wants to keep those hours after he's done with his golfing career.

Stoops, Spurrier ( really think that. that is why i wrote his name), Jimma (upon his return), Harbaugh (San Fran Harbaugh) if given the chance to head personnel, Jony McKay ("Coach, what about execution?" McKay: "I'm all for that." and Butch Davis (again, if he could also head personnel).
