Who do you have more confidence in Mazi or Guyton moving ahead?

If the staff felt that way, Guyton wouldn't have been drafted.

Not true because last season we didn’t have the three extra guards we brought in with free agency and the draft plus they just got a chance at seeing Richards playing left tackle. The offensive line room is much better now than it was last season.

I expect Guyton to be ok but I believe the team will not hesitate to replace him.

I think from an athletic standpoint, Guyton more looks the part. He is tall, long armed and decently big.

Mazi looks so unbelievably slow.

Also, I think Guyton has flashed in a way Mazi has not. There are a few impressive reps on Guyton’s tape.

From the tape alone, Toia looks MUCH QUICKER off the snap down after down than Mazi did at Michigan and Dallas. That is already a positive for him in (let’s be honest) what absolutely is going to be a competition for Mazi to finally show something…or he’ll OFFICIALLY be Taco 2.0…and possibly get cut prior to his 3rd year.

In order to give an educated response we’d need to know the mental makeup of both players. Their attitude because both have the physical tools so it comes down to how much do they want it. None of us know about that aspect.

That’s the difference in good and great players. Do they have the heart and desire to put in the work and keep getting better. Hard to measure but most important factor in a player

Both should be better. Reps make players better who learn from those reps. Mazi was a bit better in year 2 and Guyton was better late than early

So weird, right? How does a guy ranked #1 on Bruce Feldman’s athletic freak list NOT get a head start off the line of scrimmage. Seems counter to being an explosive athlete.

Mazi’s initial step has been so similar for so long that I’m not sure it’s fixable. Maybe Whitecotton can be The Miracle Worker to Mazi Smith’s Hellen Keller. Stranger things have happened.

Both were bad picks but Mazi was a complete swing and a miss. He’s the worst first round pick we’ve had since Taco. Guyton still has a chance to be serviceable. Mazi will definitely not see a second contract and could get cut before his rookie deal is up. Guyton likely won’t see a second contract either.

Unless you know the individual, impossible to measure. Another factor is how competitive they are. Goes hand in hand with wanting to get better.
