Who do you want at #34?

we're supposedly in talks to move back up into the bottom of the 1st
Don't put a ton of stock into what you may or may not have heard. It's still March. JMO but we are far more likely to trade down and get extra picks rather than trade back up into the 1st.

My preference would be to trade down in the first if Wentz and Ramsey are gone (which is my expectation) and pick up another 2nd rounder. If that is the case, then depending on who they take in the first.
Doctson or D Henry (based on whether they took Elliot in the 1st and whether Doctson falls) pick 34
Billings, ARobinson, Clark or Rankins (hopefully one of them falls) 2nd pick of the 2nd round

I am not touching Smith until there's more news on his knee. 34th pick is a valuable pick and to take it on a guy that is such an unknown health wise could be just rolling that pick and lighting it on fire.

Yeah we won't have near the info on it that teams do so its assuming he hasn't been medically removed from the board entirely. We have shown that we like to take guys we consider first found talent in the second i.e. Gregory, lawerence in a trade up, carter off injury, Lee off injury.

Truthfully I want billings at 34 but I don't see him making it out of the first round

Whos your pick at 4?

Of the consensus top guys the only one I want at 4 is Ramsey.

I think the Cowboys board looks like this

Tunsil
Ramsey
Wentz
Bosa
Buckner

We pick any of those but Tunsil, trade down in that scenario.

Before Gregory incident would have said Nkemdiche.

It also depends on who falls. A lot can happen between picks 5 and 34

Now, I'd say William Jackson III

DT is a position I know will have some good players available at 34. A few non-DTs I wouldn't mind snagging are Treadwell if he happens to be available, Karl Joseph since I don't want to risk him not being there in the 3rd, and Spence if he's somehow still on the board. Other than those guys, I have a feeling DT will be the BPA. My favorite DTs will probably be gone though: Rankins, Billings, Robinson. But this draft is loaded with DTs.

IF, and that is a big "IF", Spence is there at 34 it would be a no brainer.

I like WR, DE, CB there. DT is a popular choice on here, but I am not as sold. The team, in particular, does not value that position as much as we do. Unless it's a 3T.

-Doctson, in particular. I'd say he's my #1 guy at 34. Treadwell would be ideal, but I just can't see him falling that far. In any case, I feel like one of them will be there--as two teams will reach for speed in Fuller and Coleman and leave the better football players on the board

-Spence would be a no-brainer if he fell to 34.

-I also like Artie Burns, William Jackson III.

-If the team does want a DT, I'd wager we go after Nkemdiche. Though he's got suspension written all over him, I can see Marinelli salivating over the raw talent

I can see Nkemdiche at 34

Would love him at 34, but there's a lot of other teams out there that are high on him as well. Really a long shot to get to 34 I think.

I'll say it now....so short sighted. Your gonna get an impact DT in the 4th and 5th round...this class in that deep.

Maliek Collins DT Nebraska
Charles Tapper DE/DT Oklahoma
Willie Henry DT Michigan
Hassan Ridgeway DT Texas
D.J.Pettway DT Alabama
David Onyemata DT Manitoba
Quinton Jefferson DT Maryland
Ronald Blair DE/DT Appalachian St.
Lawrence Thomas LDE/DT Michigan St.
Nile Lawrence-Stample NT UFS

But to answer the question @ 34.....

BPA

Out of all the mock sims I've been doing....It usually boils down too....Neal, Joseph, Ogbah, Doctson

That's fine, but here is the pertinent question. Just because we took Thornton in F.A. should not preclude us from taking a DT, be it a 1-tech or 3-tech at # 34 if available. With such a deep class at DT this year, would whichever DT we take at # 34 be a better player/higher upside than Thornton ? I want that turned into a position of strength. Most teams have 2-3 good inside defenders. We signed a medium cost free agent and he vaults to the top of the depth chart straight away ! If you consider Thornton to be that good of a player, than maybe I would take a DT in the 3rd - because there will be players still available, but no later.
If we did take a QB at # 4, I would be looking at DE's or CB's at # 34. Bullard - DE, Butler - DT. Jackson or Apple at CB. Or something along that train of thought.
If we take say Ramsey # 4, same DE/DT combo and look at QB's ? And no, I repeat no, trading up for any player ! We have little depth because we keep trading away assets in the draft. Just dumb. We need every pick to help this team.
After F.A. DE, DT, CB and QB are still our primary needs. With Jones moving to F.S. that lessens that need, and we have 4th and 6th round picks for depth.

I think the board is this:
Tunsil
Ramsey
Wentz
Trade Down
Buckner

I like that better but I feel like they aren't going to get too cute in the first, we are at the top of the draft, we have our pick of the litter save 3, just take who we want.

Flash back 20 years

Before the Irvin incident I'd have said moss but now I say Ellis

But seriously we only have a few coaches on staff that can handle a knuckle head and Rod is one, just keep feeding him talented players and he will make due with the back ups when they mess up.
