Let's lock this dude up to a reasonable contract!

At this point there is virtually no money to do it.

Cap space is about $2 mil at this point.

The Waters signing and the Lee extension emptied the coffers.

He will be 32 by the time next camp rolls around. This will be his last significant contract and will want to get paid. I would do a 3-year deal between 10-12 million. Anything longer would be a gamble, maybe offer more up front to keep the cap hit lower. There will have to be some contracts re-written to make this happen. Still have Dez to sign soonish.

Bummer, I hoped we had enough to make it happen. He has played well for us and really is stepping up this year so far.

I don't believe in the continuation of pumping money into this 5-11 team.

8-8 but I get your point... So do we just blow it up completely? Retain no one? I just think he could be extended reasonably at some point.

I would blow it up; build around Dez, Lee, Carter and the rest of the young quality players.

I would then hire Bill Polian as a consultant. Just as another set of eyes to give an out of the organization opinion on the roster. Kinda like what Parcells used to do with Ron Wolf.

But I would let him have input on how we built the roster. Wishful thinking!

he's 31, will be 32 before next season......not giving him a long term deal...got Ratliff at 32, aging, declining and injured, youth influx is needed along the defensive line, not paying for age...

Nope. Absolutely not.

Lets NOT keep making the same mistake.

Too old.

Ha, it's amazing it took Hatcher 5 years to become a regular starter. I'm not sure if he's late to blossom or we just wasted a bunch of time with Spears simply because he was drafted 20th overall the year prior to Hatcher.

Either way, I'm leary of giving any vet a lucrative deal... unless Ratliff is taking a walk.
