Seriously....i like dude a lot....but you have to be real here...he will never be the same Ellis he was before the injury...matter of fact...i don't think even if he does return that he will make much of an impact...he will be tentative....

Wade says he will play him if hes ready....sure Ellis may act like hes ready...and run a little...but he wont be an impact...we might as well just let Spencer take over, and let him grow...Ellis is done, hes 30+ coming from a huge injury....i just don't want us to suffer, just because the coach and owner don't want to be mean and hurt his feelings

again i like him...and if he can return to the old Ellis..then come on down..but i know for sure, he will never be the same..and wont be a force!

I wouldnt. As long as the team isnt effected by his comments then who cares. Fact is if he gets healthy he can help this team win.

Thats like saying that we should get rid of TO because the mediots all act like fools whenever he does something.

Avoiding any ellis article might help you a bit.

Sadly, Ellis has tainted his reputation for the long term with fans. When he is discussed 5 or 10 years from now his last few years of complaints will certainly be remembered.
But for the short term, he is the only proven rusher aside from Ware and brings a lot of experience to the table. He is under contract at a reasonable price and keeps up our depth on the d-line. Without him a number of other play will have to be moved around until we find someone to do the job. I'd rather he play and allow us to bring Spencer along slowly, allowing him to play to his pass rushing strength while he learns the other aspects of OLB.

I'd cut him if he's taking a roster spot of a young player that we could use later. If not keep him

I agree. If healthy he's got value, but if he's a gimp i say give a young guy the PT. I think we can rest assure if he's not able to play them will IR him.

Remember how irritating Ellis whining was in the 2006 offseason? And then he took the field and played very well. I think most fans remember Ellis 2006 season as one of accomplishment (pre-injury) rather than whining.

And I think if Ellis can get back on the field and become productive again that most folks will forgive the 2007 offseason whining as well, though probably not forget it for awhile.

I think most Cowboy fans have forgiven Duane Thomas.

At this point, I really don't care if he stays or go. He has become a drama queen but at the same time, I think he can still be productive.

if ellis is not ready by the 2nd cut down date.. does he go on IR, or get released or do we hold a roster spot for a player we are not even sure can still play that position at a high level at the expense of a younger LB?

The way Wade makes it sound, Ellis can just step in and play week 1 without any practice. Doesn't sound like a coach that's getting ready to cut a guy. Could be blowing smoke, but it sure sounds like they are gonna give Greg every chance to get healed enough to play. I would guess if it get's to be week 2 or 3 and he's still not ready, they'll have to IR him. We still have nearly 20 days so he has some time left to progress towards being able to atleast play some. Might have to be sparingly at first, but i'm hoping he can work his way in as quickly as possible. We've put up with his incessant crying,he's cheap and he knows what he's doing, so i'd like to get some use out of the guy.

He's the Jim Jeffcoat of this team, he'll play the two years left on his contract and retire. Jeffcoat moaned about losing his starting job to Haley a bit but still played admirably as a rotation player before leaving for bigger bucks in FA to Buffalo in '95.

I say move on without him. With this injury he will never he his average self again. I just can't see how much better Ellis can be than a young healthy Spencer. Remember, Ellis has only played this position about a year longer than Spencer. Ellis is not the future anyway..............

I really don't care, just wire his pie hole shut! While they're at it they better wire T.O.'s pie hole shut also, just for insurance!;)

Keep him. I just can't understand those of you who are so sure he will never be the same. If you so positive and knowledgeable, why haven't you made millions in the stock market?

Ellis will cost us only $2.5M for this year. If he's able to come back, that's the best thing that could happen for us. Spencer isn't ready yet and Carpenter isn't Ellis. Ellis may only have played OLB position for half a year but he's spent almost 10 years in the NFL as a DE pass rusher & is smart enought to know/understand a lot. As media have frequently reported, he and LB coach have spent almost every day on the sidelines working/teaching Ware and Spencer about hand technique in pass rushing, etc. For all his whining Ellis continues to help our OLBers develop as much as he can.

Besides if Ellis is on the team when season opens, he is guaranteed his
$2.5M even if he's on IR. We certainly can't get any other OLB anywhere near as good as Ellis. Why don't you just keep your powder dry and exercise some patience? Believe it or not some of these old birds (over 30 types) actually are pretty good players.

Finally, I really hope Ellis realizes how much of a commitment the Cowboys are making to him. Many players at his age on other teams who suffer serious injuries and not healed when next season rolls around, often are simply cut and injury settlement given to them. He's darn lucky he plays for the Dallas Cowboys and I sure hope he realizes it soon. He may not get the big bucks he's after before his career is over, but he's also not going to be thrown out the door like a piece of garbage.

Sago thanks for speaking with some clarity. If indeed this team is going to make a run we need all the horses we can ride. If Ellis gets healthy at any point in the season he is a proven weapon. Spencer is still a pipe dream until he gets some skins on the wall. Even if Spencer is the 2nd coming of Ware, then the presence of Ellis, Ware, and Spencer will give QB's and oline's nightmares.
