Who else would just rather Ellis leave?

let us just get rid of the guy he not going to be able to play until about half way through the season.

Like it or not, Ellis is this teams 2nd best pass rusher. He's a guy who can really contribute. It may be a few weeks into the season before we can use him, but we will be better with him than without him.

And folks, spare me the "Spencer is the real deal" business. Expecting him to come in and dominate this year (or even next) is silly.

Exactly.

And you can't relate achilles injuries today to those from Kevin Smith's day. Ellis' was as repairable as possible (in the middle of the tendon, not at the attachment) and rehab has come a long, long way in the last 10 or 12 years or so.

If Ellis was healthy he would be the starter. Then someone like Jr. Glymph would be the last LB on the roster. Probably not active on game day and probably not seeing much if any playing time. Now Ellis is not healthy, so why can't he be that last LB on the roster? He can sit inactive for game days while the Cowboys field healthy linebackers.

The Cowboys moving forward can still happen even with a less than 100% Ellis on the squad. His injury is not holding Dallas hostage. They can still make plans for the team if Ellis ends up not being available for the entire season. Whoever takes up his roster spot if he can't go at all will probably rarely see the field. The steps of replacing Ellis the starter are already in the works. Spencer and Carpenter will be called upon.

Your assuming no further injuries to the LB core. If Ellis is holding a roster spot and not able to play and we have another injury, then we will be in very bad shape. I still say, IF Ellis is not ready to go by the 2nd cut down, we should IR him, if PUP is not an option.

Ellis was the 2nd best pass rusher on the team LAST year. We have no idea what kind of player he is now.

So true.

Why are we agonizing over some guy who is coming off a serious, long-term injury and isn't yet ready to practice?
Even Ellis says he's not there yet.
Let him coach. let him baby sit.
But, please, Jerra and Wade, let's move on.

:laugh2::lmao:....i know!

Actually I do take that into account. If Ellis were released and Dallas then suffered an injury to a LB especially a OLB, then they are in trouble anyway. Depending on who got hurt and to what extent, they would have to juggle the roster or sign a guy off the practice squad or off the street. It is not as if the 8th or 9th LB on the roster is the answer whether that is Ellis or some other guy.

I don't think PUP is an option. IR may be. I just don't see the rush to release him. Some want it done now and even the second cut down seems to quick. Now IR seems a more reasonable answer. I just think he could be stashed on the roster for a few weeks without hurting the team. Heck, Randall Williams was stashed on the roster for several weeks a couple of years ago to allow him to get over his injury.
