Witten is flat out a better overall player than Novacek both receiving and blocking and it's not even close. Novacek had a single season with 700+ yards. His last and it was 705. Except for Witten's rookie year, he hasn't had one with less than 750+ yards. t.

Can't compare using stats like that. The Cowboys have had nowhere near the rushing attack during Witten's time then during Novacek's.The Cowboys didn't need to throw to the TE nearly as much but when they did Novacek made the play.Novacek was Aikman's security blanket and who he looked for when things started to go bad.Not saying Novacek is head and shoulders above Witten but certainly is at least near the same level.You also have to factor in the rule changes made to make it easier to pass which Witten can and has benefited from.Novacek was one of my favs on those teams and I always thought he was under-appreciated. He made a ton of clutch, chain moving catches and the Cowboys haven't had a great O since he left. At least until we finally found a replacement for him in Witten.Who by the way is becoming on of my favs on this team.

Novacek was an extremely good player who had to retire early because of a bad back.

Jason Witten is still an overall better player than Novacek ever was. He is a more accomplished blocker and he can be split out wide as a wide receiver.

You take nothing away from Jay Novacek by saying Jason Witten is a better player.

You can argue all you want, Witten is a better player. Stats aside, he is just a better player. Believe me, Novacek was my favorite player in the 90s, and I still say. Witten is a better player. He is a better blocker, and a better receiver. It's not even close.

What I loved so much about Novacek was that if you needed a 3rd down converstion, he could get it for you. There was a reason they called him Johnny Paycheck.

Does that make him better than Witten? No.

Gurode for Stepnoski? Step was good, but not dominate. Big Nate was to his left, and Gesek to his right, but I have to believe Gurode would have made the team better.

Step had a way of humiliating even the best of NTs and DTs. I do not know if Gurode is that good yet- but he is getting closer all the time.
