Who should the Cowboys DEZignate with the franchise tag next year? I know the players hate the franchise tag, they think it's DEZspicable. That's tough, yet it's how the league DEZigned the pay structure, so deal with it. It's weird how players always seem to have more passion and DEZire for the game in their final contract year, isn't it? It's a tough DEZcision, no doubt.

Huh? What are you, some kind of mind reader?!!!

I don't think its a coincidence that Cowboys are having a good year and there are so many expiring contract. They are directly proportional. The only person who warrants franchise tag would be Dez. If Murray price is to high they will let him test the market. Dallas won't let Dez test market for this year or next year even if long term deal isn't reached.

I would rather pay Dez WR franchise dollars then Murray RB franchise dollars, ones coming down the other is going up.

Dez.

The tag is projected to be about 13M for WRs. That's probably less than he wants per season on a contract. Normally, the tag is higher than the average salary that a player would get and it's beneficial to the team to get a contract done; however, that's probably not the case with Dez.

In regards to Murray, the franchise tag is expected to be around 9M which is far more than he's likely to get per season on a contract.

I've seen some talk that Dez would automatically be given the deal over Murray because of durability issues at the RB position. I'm glad to see there's financial sense in keeping the front office hands off the Dallas' running game, its the only thing that's pushing Dallas toward the playoffs, I'd hate to see them let Murray walk.

Having all these contracts coming up is really tough.
Still I ask the question why is it that the Patriots can
get their players to sign in at the company pay plan
and we can't?
Maybe it's because Jerry's been generous so long they
[players] expect more. I don't want to go back to the cap hell
we just are starting to pull out of.

Get under contract who we can and franchisee that one case
that wont play reasonable ball. (Dez]

I wonder who we lose that will hurt.

Its fairly simple.................DEZ......................he is the only guy worth paying top 5 money to at his position that is going to be a free agent.

Sorry, but I am not paying Murray $9 million a season, that is just stupid. First of all, running backs are not valued that high anymore and it would be overpaying. Second, the fumbling issues automatically deduct value. He fumbled at the 5 yard line in a game we lost by 3 points, that loss goes into his column. Third, this is his first season being the bell cow and I don't pay top 5 money off just 1 year of production, that is stupid also. Finally, the last point that deducts value is his lack of top end speed. He is not a homerun back that can take it to the house everytime he breaks the line of scrimmage line Adrian Peterson or Chris Johnson used to.

We reportedly have an offer on the table of 4 yr for $16 million.....................I would up the offer to 4 yrs $20 million and tell him to take it or leave it, $5 million a season is about the max I pay for a RB in the NFL.

good points.

Dez would be the only one that we would consider using the tag on as many have said. And I don't think Murray will be back next year as he will get a significantly larger offer from another team. I wouldn't blame him for taking it and leaving us. This is his big shot to make some major money and he needs to do that for himself and his family. I would like him back but his contract would be cost-prohibitive (plus Jerry will pay Peterson that high money instead I believe). That being said, I think we will do fine with either Randle or another player to be named (Peterson :)) or a rookie.

I'd tag Dez the next 2 years and then maybe give him max money if he had still earned it.

If someone pays Demarco Murray 9 million a year they are off their rocker.

Wow I sure hope they don't or would not let Murray walk, Dez is a great player for us but IMO Murray is just as an important if not more of an asset to the cowboys, imagine where we'd be this year if we did not have the run game that Murray brought? Keep me both please, work it out...pay them what their worth even if it take some major restructuring in contracts.

pretty obvious that it's Dez

My only question will be given his outward demonstration of how unhappy he'd be with the franchise tag, how will that effect his play going forward? Has he matured enough to understand the business decision aspect and still play at a high level? or will he act immature and purposely not play with 100% effort because of his unhappiness?

with the exception of brady not many players have took less to play in N.E.
there is a reason they keep running out of wr's

my guess is we sign dez to a deal and if needed we could use tag on murray. in a perfect world we don't use it at all. but this may be a year we have to.

I figure it will be Murray or Dez which one all comes down to how difficult it is to sign one or the other. I think it is possible to avoid the franchise tag with both men but in the end I don't see either one of them leaving via FA next season. I think it is in the best interest of either player and this franchise to get a longer term deal

Sign Dez to a team friendly deal, restructure Romo and Witten. Sign some of these O lineman to team friendly extensions while we can afford them.
