That was me. Here you go.

1. Michael Irvin...750
2. Jason Witten...517
3. Drew Pearson...489
4. Emmitt Smith...486

All Time TE Receptions

1. Tony Gonzalez...996
2. Shannon Sharpe...815
3. Ozzie Newsome...662
4. Kellen Winslow...541
5. Jason Witten...517
6. Frank Wycheck...505

When all is said and done, I wonder how many receptions Witten ends up with?

It could be well north of 800 receptions with a few more healthy years.

I think he passes Shannon Sharp if he stays healthy.

Awesome - Thank you , had to send this out to the haters , only 27 yrs old as well.

probably won't catch Gonzalez as he is only 33 and is still playing at a very high level... but Gonzo is going to go down as the best TE to ever play the game. Witten's #s are unreal for his age two or three more years and he's a HOF lock.

Witten came in the league super-young - like 21. He also started playing at a very high level in his second year with Vinnie at QB. It is hard to say where he'll end up but he looks like a lock for 75-100 catches/year. Five years at 80 catches per would put him at 917 in striking distance of where Gonzo is right now. All those numbers depend on injury, of course.

Witten is way ahead of Gonzalez's pace, so all he has to do is stay almost as productive as Gonzalez and play almost as long.

Here are the all-time leaders in catches by a tight end through age 27 --

1. Jason Witten, 517 (one game remaining)
2. Tony Gonzalez, 468
3. Kellen Winslow Sr., 399
4. Jeremy Shockey, 371
5. Ozzie Newsome, 351

Yes, it might be difficult to stay highly productive for as long as Gonzalez, but Witten has a FAR better chance of breaking his records than any running back has of ever coming close to Emmitt's rushing record. Witten is well ahead of Gonzalez's pace, but every running back is way behind Emmitt's pace.

Man Witten is sick. I remember wanting to draft him big time when he came out. He got stuck @ WR his JR year at Tennessee and was obviously a TE. When we picked him I was beyond happy and this fortunately was one thing I was correct about.

This franchise has been blesssed with many great TE's but Witten may be the best of the bunch.

Of course, at 28 Gonzo really broke out. He averaged 67 catches a year through 27, but since then has averaged 88 per season. So the "pace" comparison likely won't be as favorable in future years as it is a higher bar to keep up with
