As far as meeting Cowboys go, I have never been to Dallas although it is a trip that I will be making next fall. And I guess I just haven had as much opportunity.

I will add Scottie Pippen and MJ to my list forgot about them.

Anyway; When the first ESPN Zone opened at the Baltimore Harbor, ESPN would do the Sunday Night countdown LIVE (if any of you remember that) from the venue. I had a friend that was a bartender their and he would get me tickets every week.

Time and time again I witnessed Berman yelling at random people on the production staff and the restaurant staff. Now the production staff is within his realm of responsibility and understandable.

But the employees of the restaurant ? About trivial stuff like a glass of water, or room temp., just barking out orders like he owned the place. As a restaurant manager at the time, I just found it unacceptable. Seriously who does he think he is ? The guy is a sports reporter not even a real celebrity or even former sports star. He just left me with a feeling that he was an A-Hole. Tom Jackson on the other hand was always cool, calm, and collected.

I was originally thinking just Dallas Cowboys but some others...

I've meet Waylon Jennings several times. I grew up in a small town about 12 miles from his home town and used to hang out there. I used hang out and shoot pool with his younger brother Bo (who later also became a singer but not nearly as good or successful as Waylon) and his other brother James married my next door neighbor. I meet Waylon a couple of times when he came to town to visit his family.

Meet Willie Nelson at a 4th of July bash once. Waylon was there and recognized me and introduced us...that was pretty cool. He didn't remember my name but recognized my face and called me over.

Meet Stevie Ray Vaughn in San Antonio. He was out on the town partying at the same club I was in. Just a quick "Hi how are you, I'm a big fan" kind of thing. He was cool but we both had partying to do and I was with a very attractive woman and didn't want him getting to friendly with her ;)

Meet Bob Segar backstage at a concert when he played San Antonio. I had won a backstage pass in a radio contest.

I meet Charlie Pride (black country and western singer - old school) at a nightclub gig he did in Lubbock Texas in 1969. I was too young to get in legally but in those days in that area that sort of thing was generally winked at.

I meet the several members of the Spurs in the airport in San Antonio once as they were waiting for their plane. Got a round of handshakes but no meaningful conversation. David Robinson is one huge individual.

I saw Ric Flair (pro wrestler) in a restaurant once but didn't talk to him. He seemed like he was in the middle of some important discussion with a guy in a business suit so I didn't interrupt. But Ric was Stylin' and Profilin's as usual in some obviously high dollar duds.

I have met Ric Flair often.
I used to work with his brother. His brother is nothing like him. His brother was about 5'7 maybe 120 lbs .Haven't seen his brother in a couple years .

Also met Micky Spagnola at a hotel bar . I said aren,t you Micky Spagnola and he said "yes I can't believe you know who I am". Then bought me and my brother a drink .He was with another gentleman , whom I did not reconize.

... on the way to Chicago. I noticed him, but it was another lady in the cabin who called him out.

He must have been in a good mood because he opened up to a few of us and by the end of the flight we were all chatting. It started out football and the Cowboys, but by the end it ended up as shop talk about business, trends, demographics and the like.

Very well spoken and very knowledgeable. You could see why his ventures have fared well over the years.

i met tony dorsett in the mid-80's when he was campaigning for incumbent governor tony anaya in eastern new mexico.

there was such a throng present - it was highly impersonal. almost a letdown.

Was that at the mall in Clovis?

If so, I was there, too.

My sports writing background has allowed me to meet a lot of Cowboys, some in person, and some doing phone interviews:

Roger Staubach
Bob Lilly
Drew Pearson
Tony Hill
Troy Aikman
Michael Irvin
Russell Maryland
Bill Bates
Dan Reeves
Mike Ditka
Jerry Jones
Dave Campo
Chan Gailey
Darrin Smith
Tommy Agee
Ken Norton
Manny Hendrix
Eugene Lockhart
Billy Joe Dupree
Michael Downs
Neil Armstrong
Jim Jeffcoat
Butch Davis
Derrick Lassic
Alan Lowry
Gene Stallings
Dat Nguyen
Greg Ellis
Larry Lacewell
Duane Thomas

A few highlights:

-- I had a great 40-minute, one-on-one visit with Gailey and will support him and defend him forever. I really liked the guy and thought he got a raw deal.

-- Duane Thomas, who refused to talk to the media before the Super Bowl in 1972, talked my ear off for over an hour. Strange guy, but I liked him. He was blown away that I had a hardback copy of his book.

-- Bob Lilly (as Hos has said) used to live in Las Cruces. I hung out with him for awhile at his photography studio. He's one my favorites ... great guy who had many of the same interests as me.

-- Some of the former Cowboys were in town to play in a charity basketball game and I hung out with Drew Pearson and Tony Hill in their hotel room for about a half-hour. We watched an NBA game. Drew swore at the time that Todd Day would never make it big in the NBA and he was right. Hill was a favorite of mine. He later called and left a message on my machine that he was going to be in the area for another basketball game and asked me to drive up.

-- Did phone interviews with Dan Reeves and Mike Ditka. Like Gailey, I'll defend Reeves til the end of time. I love the guy. Ditka was great, too. Loved his candor.

-- The guys that I didn't "click" with were Norton, Maryland and Bates. Norton, especially, was difficult to deal with. Bates was polite, but he and I didn't hit it off.

Like I said in the other thread on the off-topic board, I've also met a few other athletes such as Tim Salmon of the Angels, Sam Perkins, some of the Unser racing family ...

Richard Farnsworth, Clay O'Brien Cooper and Gloria Estefan.

Met four New Mexico governors and immediately wanted to wash my hands each time.

And I've met Dale. :)

My dad worked with a guy who was an NFL referee. He brought me a football thrown by Joe Namath in a game. I think it went for a touchdown. Or that is how the story goes.

I have met:

Charles Haley - really very nice.
Alvin Harper - Very talkative. Met him almost every week for the entire 92 season.
Tommy Agee - soft handshake
Emmitt Smith - rookie season.
Troy Aikman
James Washington
Ike Holt
Tony Dorsett
Harvey Martin - Absolutely a great guy. Thrilled at being recognized.
Nate Newton
Michael Irvin - many times. Just a terrific guy.
Clayton Holmes - druggie
Mike Saxon
Leon Lett
Darren Woodson - very soft spoken
Babe Laufenberg
Thomas Everett
Ron Stone

Non-Cowboys

David Keith - Actor
Carol Burnett - Actress
Derrick Harper - Mavs
Rolando Blackman - Mavs
John Goodman - Actor

Passed Nate as he was entering a building. Told him "Thanks for the Superbowls." He high-fived me.

Met Harvey Martin in the back of a night club. We both sold products to this spot and he was out servicing the kitchen for some reason. He stopped and talked for nearly a half-hour. He was really thrilled that I recognized him. He once had a radio show in Dallas called The Beautiful Harvey Martin Show. He was just that.

Irvin comes into the place I work alot. He always stops by and says hello. I spent about an hour with him one night as he downloaded the weekly games and reports for his ESPN show. He was just another guy. There wasn't anyone else in the store but he and I. I had the opportunity to tell him how much I enjoyed his career.

I used to own a business which serviced nightclubs. During the 92 and 93 seasons I met Harper every Thursday. He always stopped and talked. I suggested he take the nickname "The Play Breaker" so he and Irvin would have something similar. he liked the idea of "The Human Highlight Film." I think that will tell you evetything you need to know about him. He was very friendly and enjoyed the celebrity. After the catch in the 93 NFC Championship game, he became aloof.

As far as sports stars the only one I have ever met is Joe Montana. While I stationed onboard the USS Carl Vinson he came out for a vist and I got an autograph and my picture taken with him. Although I did fly on the same plane as Mike Hampton once and as we were waiting for our lugage at the Atlanta airport I remember leaning over to my wife and saying hey that guy is Mike Hampton. I didn't want to bother him for an autograph as he was with his family and probably was returning to town from vacation.

I met Emmitt Smith's parents at a card shop that they used to own in Pensacola, FL. Seemed very nice and the card shop was awesome (had a little shrine room to Emmitt in the back if I remember correctly). For anyone in the Pensacola area is the shop still open? Last time I went through it wasn't or at least not in the same little shopping are a it was before.

I also got the chance to meet President Clinton, actors Lorenzo Lamas and David Keith and news anchor Matt Lauer (sp?).

yup, sure was. i finished up my Air Force hitch at nearby Cannon AFB and stuck around in clovis for a couple of years.

i've met mary lou retton and george foreman around houston. george foreman is the nicest, most unassuming person you'd ever wanna meet. it's hard to believe he was ever the brooding behemoth you see in the Ali-Foreman "Rumble in the Jungle" footage. just a great person.

I've met Marcus Spears numerous times, and Stephen Peterman once or twice. Also I've waved to Bradie James, but never spoken to him.

But yeah... anyway... Marcus and I are best friends now. :) haha, just kidding! We are friends though, and I'm his number one fan forever!

Non Cowboys--- I've met two of the Backstreet Boys (Brian and AJ), lol. Really nice guys, and very, very talented. I was at a charity golf tournament in Kentucky and they sang acapella for us.

Don't know how I could have forgotten about this guy. I was playing junior high ball when he was on our high school team. Met him several times when he came back to town and would give pep talks to the team when I was in high school.

Also forgot that I had met Jessica Simpson and her hubby Nick.

I've met Staubach, Walt Garrison, Dan Reeves and Charlie Waters. I may have seen some others and didn't know who I was looking at.

Our group here has met an impressive list of celebraties and meeting them has obviously been a strong enough experience for us to remember the details years later. I wonder if any of them remember meeting us? Probably not many.

I was on the Chuck V from May 94 - Jan 98, was on there when it shifted homeports from Alameda, Ca up to Bremerton, WA. What a great ship that one was, by far the best tour of my career, professionally. Fifth month of deployment, means you guys should be heading home soon or already on your way. Hope you guys get some great stops on your way back to San Diego and Bremerton. During my deployments as onboard we hit Perth, Hobart and Hawaii on our way back. Also got to become golden shellbacks.

J. Jones and I have become good or decent friends. I've met him at one of my restaurants (not knowing who is was at that time) and we've become good friends.
