dont care what anyone says, if we miss the playoffs garrett DESREVES to be fired. no further along after his tenure here
No. He wont get fired.
Im sorry
We keep hearing the mantra that the defense is horrific because of injuries.
I am sorry, but that pig will not fly.
We had as many, if not more injuries last year on defense, and while last year's defense was bad, it was no where near this seasons record setting putrid unit.
So it falls to the coaching and or the move to the 4/3.
What I want to know was who's idea was it to move to the 4/3 and fire Rob Ryan and hire Kiffin ?
This decision has singlehandedly destoyed our season and made the Cowboys a joke around the NFL.
If this was Garrett's call, Jerry should show him the door after the season, period.
Of course if it was Jerry calling the shot, well we know he won't fire himself
So now we subjectively using real bad vs really real bad? I don't think we really know the reasons for Ryan's release but I suspect the noise about conflict etc have some measure of truth. And no one knows whose call it was but I suspect it was Garrett. My guess is Ryan wasn't following the HC's instructions. Personally I wouldn't have messed with Ryan's defense if I were Garrett but I ain't. And we do know that Ryan's defense was 'difficult' for the players. Personally, I'd tell them to learn it or find a job elsewhere but that's not so easy now. You are leasing players now so you can't just move on with the cap.
I think the move was was a Jerry thing and Garrett is just trying to keep his own job. If that means throwing a coordinator under the bus, so be it. I love Rob Ryan, I think he is a great coach and I am very happy for his success in New Orleans, but I don't know if any coordinator in the league could do well with guys like Heath, Webb, Carter and I would list the street free agents on the D-line but I don't know their names.

Folks seem to have short memories here.
We had as many or more injuries last year and were plucking guys off the street to start.
Last years defense was better than this years.
We had a scheme that better fit the players and better coaching on defense.
Ware and Carter have regressed in present 4/3 that we are running.
Jerry also said he wouldn't fire wade midseason. But he did. Jerry is just giving JG his vote of confidence. Miss the playoffs and JGs gone.If you believe Broadus or any of those other fools over the guy that owns the team when it comes to these type of moves I dont think I can say much more to drive the point home. Im sure nothing would make you happier to see JG canned, but its HIGHLY unlikely. Id imagine he will be here for quite some time. Ignore it or embrace it... But it is what it is.
I don't really buy the injury excuse. We've been practically completely healthy in the secondary and linebacker positions. Sean Lee missed a few games but that should be expected considering his history. Matt Johnson went IR but that also should have been expected. Other than that, we've been fairly healthy in the back 7. So where did our injuries come from? Well, they came on the D-line. But if you look at it, Ware and Hatcher have been healthy almost all season. We should have expected a drop-off in production from Ware considering his age and decline over the past few years. We also got a pleasant surprise from Hatcher so there should be no complaints there. We also shouldn't have expected much from Ratliff. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets cut by Chicago after this year and never plays again. Many of us predicted before the season that he wouldn't play another snap. So really the only significant season-ending injury has been Spencer. Fortunately, we got lucky landing a solid player like Selvie to replace him. And I don't think we can really say our season got ruined because of losses to unproven guys like Crawford and Bass. My point is, the only significant unexpected season-ending injury we suffered was Spencer. I doubt the loss of Spencer caused us to become one of the worst defenses of all time. What I'm saying is, we had major problems before the injuries. We had a lack of depth and veteranship in the secondary. Our only reliable linebacker also has a history of injuries. And we had no depth behind one of the oldest D-lines in the NFL. Are you really surprised by what happened this season? I'm not.
Jobber,
I don't think there is any "subjectively" going on here.
Last years defense was bad, just your average bad.
This years unit is setting multiple NFL records for badness LOL : (
You knowe the drill, most first downs given up in a single game,
Most 400 yard passer against ect ect ect......
I honestly believe that with last year defense, this years team would have won the KC and Detroit games and quite
possible the Denver game.
How would you like to be 9 and 4 or 10 and 3 ???
Lol you actually believe Jerry when he says JG is safe. He's not going to come out publicly and say if we don't make the playoffs JG is gone. That would create a media circus.No. He wont get fired.
Im sorry
I agree this defense is worse but I don't think that matters a great deal. You only have to be bad enough esp with pass defense and you are going to lose unless you have a mind blowing offense. You may be right about the KC and Det games esp the former. I think we have not been able to get off the field on third down or make critical stops for awhile now. Last year the defense failed the club giving up almost 25 per game. The offense failed too though only scoring about 23 a game.
So there are multiple problems on the team but the defense is just the main reason we are failing at this point in the season. Nobody is going to overcome this many injuries. You could have the best defensive minds in football all here and there'd be nothing they could do. When you have to put people on the field before they're ready to play this is what you get esp when its systemic. The front seven and the secondary are failing although it's hard to judge the secondary completely due to the front seven and lack of pass rush esp. Sry, didn't mean for that to come across as smart aleck.

That's what I'm saying. People say we've had a ton of backups on the D-line, and we have. But those guys are all so spare, they're roughly equal. If you replace a .210 hitter with a succession of other .210 hitters, you haven't lost much. It's not like the fifth .210 hitter is that much worse, if he is at all, than your first .210 hitter.
And the secondary and LBs have been fairly, by NFL standards, healthy.
Lol you actually believe Jerry when he says JG is safe. He's not going to come out publicly and say if we don't make the playoffs JG is gone. That would create a media circus.
Lol you sound so sure of yourself too. I bet you believed Jerry when he said wade was safe, too.
Miss the playoffs and Jerry WILL fire JG.
