Who is the short yardage back?

And the Zeke criticism so typically is misplaced. Forgive me if you've heard this before, but facts are facts. Both of the last two seasons, there was a before and after version of Zeke... before the CAR knee injury (2021) and before the DET knee injury (2022), Zeke was pretty much Zeke like we've always known Zeke.
Those "facts" aren't facts at all! Pure fiction.

In games 1-7 (Detroit game) Zeke averaged 4.04. In Zeke's "freshest and healthiest" 2022 games dude played like a scrub.

In the same games Pollard averaged 5.67

I've posted on this multiple times this year and I'm glad to see the message is getting through to some.

As a reminder:
Few NFL teams use a special "short yardage" back. And the best teams?
-Chiefs don't hesitate to use Pacheco (5'10 210) near goal line.
-49ers happily use finesse back McCaffrey (5'11 205) in the red zone, near the goal.

The team is currently trying to figure that out. It may end up being a committee between Davis and Dowdle. We still have Ronald Jones. They may have to go with Pollard. I don’t see them using Vaughn in critical short yardage situations but who knows. It’s a dilemma, because outside of Pollard no one is proven.
It’s too bad RJones is hurt.

Jones was only able to merit 17 carries w/the Chiefs last year @ 4.1 yards a pop. His trajectory the last three years points true south (down!). He offers no more than Malik or Dowdle, likely a good deal less. He took PEDs to extend his career and got caught. He knows he ain't got it...maybe we should just acknowledge he ain't got it.

He'll be one of the easier cuts.

As for providing bruiser runs? He's 5'11 207, with tread on his tires.

Zzzzzzz.

I'm almost as worried about this fine detail, as I am about PK. Do you think for one second that Jimmy would have entered a promising season like this one with two (2) obvious loose ends? I still believe that the kicking situation is going to cost us the division and/or critical playoff seeding.

The problem was Dallas had to justify their playing time given to Zeke for so many years that fans lost sight of the truth. We build these guys up and get stuck in our ways and don’t realize when the speed and elusiveness is gone.

It takes a Jimmy Johnson to realize Herschel Walker lost it before the NFL World does.

We will be fine with Pollard and Deuce. To our new OC’s point, short yardage situations are often in the middle of the field and there’s a whole lot of space behind them. Can’t wait to see some more 30+ yard runs again!

Jerry built up Zeke to the point where short yard specialist is only a thing for this team!

Deuce is scary in short yardage because you can go shotgun and call an inside run, outside toss, draw, screen, or legit pass. How can a defense decide what to do if they can’t even see what the RB does post snap?
All he needs is a crack. He's got so many moves and consistently makes people miss.

You line up in that rugby position that the eagles did last year and get the yard. Dak doesn't even need to take the snap. Could be any of the backs. I'm sure most the league will have a version of that play this year
The first time we try the scrum play, it will immediately banned…but just for us.

Sorry, but I don’t trust Davis, Dowdle, or Deuce in a must make situation against a stacked 8 man front…you need a battering ram like Zeke.

===================

Pro-tip: Don't cite half a fact, T-RO , and then claim you've disproven the entire assertion.

Yes. Doing the math right up to that DET injury, he was 4.099... or 4.1. League average is typically right around 4.3 iirc.

Think deeper now, if you dare. MIght not want to, but sobriety demands it.

That is, when you also take into consideration that beginning last season Zeke received virtually all of the 3rd-and-short and 4th-and-short and most of the goal-to-go carries... carries that inherently are going to end up with lower yardage results... his numbers were naturally going to be more suppressed since he wasn't getting the full range of conditions like he did in 2021 and before when he didn't share the load so much.

"Scrub"...??? ... hehe... you really have to be a certified Zeke hater to come to that word label... just my opinion.

The numbers and the evidence at their very worst would assert that Zeke was average prior to his DET injury. A kinder assessment says he was what I said... "pretty much Zeke like we've always known Zeke."

"Fiction"...???

The numbers are the numbers, my friend.

2001 Pre-injury = 5.3 average ... post-injury = 3.8 average (about a 40% decrease)

2002 Pre-injury = 4.1 average ... post-injury = 3.4 average (about a 20% decrease)

I tend to do the math and argue with myself before I make rash accusations... tends to allow me the pleasure of claiming the high and solid ground for my conclusions, and concurrently allows me the pleasure of avoiding having to endure people contorting things later on to fit with their preferred conclusions. But that's just me. I can't tell anyone else how they should or shouldn't operate, of course.
