You have been pimping him as a big back despite him being smaller than Luepke. I doubt we add a big back.
Here's the thing, poke...
If by "pimping," one means that a person (me, in this case) has noticed that (fact 1) a Player X who writers for that team have noted is on the bubble also (fact 2) fits a profile that Will McClay and his scouts given the input received from Mike McCarthy and his coaches evidently determined was worth putting preferred UDFA bonus money toward... that's a weird term, but okay, you use whatever term you prefer since I'm not boss of you.
If by "pimping," one means that a person (me in this case) is... (bad assumption 1) is predicting what will happen... or (bad assumption 2) is so deluded as to think it somehow would make sense to promote the idea of adding a Horvath (or similar)... you're just gaslighting and disinterested in an adult conversation... I'm fairly convinced that Will McClay doesn't come to internet boards to determine what he should do.
And here's the second... you're actually trying to suggest a difference of plus-4 lb and minus 2-in b/t two players (per pro-football-reference.com) is compelling... which says more about the speciousness of your thinking than it does the substance of this topic, imo.
Reaffirming my take, trying to stave off these constant attempts to use new verbs and contort my position
A. It is reasonable to believe Joneses/McClay/McCarthy wanted to see Luepke assert himself as a kind of Juszczyk in-the-making, and I'm pretty sure there were even words to that effect shortly after he was signed.
B. It is reasonable to believe they believed that Luepke or any other similar option attractive to them... eg, Fant... would be available late in the draft or immediately after in unrestricted free agency... because that's just how players fitting that profile tend to go.
C. It is reasonable to believe that the inventory of 240-250 lb FBs has become so minimal that, by default, front offices who want to go that route have to, instead, be satisfied to look at 230-240 pounders.
D. It is reasonable to believe that with McCarthy taking
total control of the offense, and given his history in GB that's been well-documented in the thread specific to that topic, McCarthy's thinking was ground zero for signing Luepke and Fant.
E. It is reasonable to believe that if Luepke nor Fant make the cut, and one or both are practice squad bound, there could be an opportunity extended to a player who fits that same profile and who has actually stuck on another NFL team's 53-man for an entire season or seasons... but whose team has had offensive philosophy changes occur that made him expendable... whether resulting in being cut or being traded.
F. Horvath fits that profile, but he may not be the only one who fits that profile.
G. Maybe most importantly what needs to be understood in any of this where someone is trying to understand what I'm putting down... saying "it is reasonable to think" is
not the same thing as saying "I think this will happen,"
nor "I think this should happen."
We good?
