For quite some time now, I believed the shot caller was indeed Jerry. In the last year or two, I have been under the impression that comforting disposition had moved down to Stephen. I'm beginning to wonder if Garrett is more than just a "coach".

From my perspective, he appears to be stubbornly sticking with what is clearly not working. We are three weeks in now and have amassed an impressive three straight losses to go with Weeden's (12 straight) stat. Where's the innovation? Where's the strategic superiority? Where's the ability in-game to say "this isn't working.. let's go with plan B or C or D". Is there only a "Plan A & Pray" strategy in place weekly?

Weeden should not have started the game against the Pats. It should have been Cassell if he knows 80% of the playbook. DJ Check Nice Down has clearly proven that his options are not limited by his responses to media questions. He just chooses to check down every single time. Perhaps it's his ability to quickly process and anticipate the landscape downfield. I equate that to a great chess player that can anticipate 2 or 3 moves ahead. Brandon Weeden probably sucks at chess..... Just a hunch. Cassell should have been given a chance.

Then there's the Christine Michael situation. Perhaps the bye week will help work that situation out. Michael has a motor and you can see in his eyes that he's hungry. Getting him the ball once a game by sticking to some idiotic 3rd & 1 / 4th & 1 only strategy is preposterous. He could have really helped us yesterday. Heck.. With 9 minutes left in the 4th quarter, down 6-27, the game was pretty much over. Why not give Michael plenty of run for the next 9 minutes so you go into the bye week with plenty of game tape to evaluate?

The RBBC has failed. I knew it would fail. I was against it from day one. I pleaded for Dallas and Demarco to meet in the middle. BOTH sides were wrong in that ultimately not happening and BOTH sides are paying mightily for it this year. That said, to completely muff the punt in the draft and pickup a Chaz Green where you could have gotten a quality running back in the middle rounds... Chaz Green? Really? Seriously... Chaz Green. My heart truly sank at that very moment and I knew it would be a long season. The RBBC wasn't working with Tony & Dez healthy so that's not part of the equation. Before they went down, many were crowing about how we were passing too much and that it would come back to haunt us later in the year. 45 pass attempts does not equate to longevity for Tony Romo.

These thoughts all make me wonder who is calling the shots. Is it the stubborn Garrett? Dead set on sticking with Weeden and his RBBC until the wheels fall off? Or is some of this idiocy shared by the Joneses? We don't have much time to get this right. I hope & pray the right evaluation will be made over the next two weeks to get the right offensive mix on the field. The Giants are just over the horizon and they won't feel sorry for us either.

I have no worries on the defensive side of the ball. They'll have some mojo working after the bye.

Good post.. Even though you don't know anything about RB's I see it doesn't carry over into other football topics.

The RBBC would work fine but we don't know what we're doing with a RBBC so it would be better for us to just have 1 stud RB.

The Dallas Cowboys can't play the chess game. We don't know how. We are 100% player dependent.

It's still Jerry's team. That part has not changed. Stephen and McClay are allowed to do their jobs....for the most part.

This is what's most puzzling to me. It seems everything op said is how most of us see it. We are just fans but fairly knowledgeable fans. Is there something we are not getting? These changes and observations seem obvious.

A lot of these NFL coaches get too much credit but they make stupid decisions all of the time.

I'm sure Garrett is as knowledgeable as anyone when it comes to the weekly routine of getting guys ready for Sunday.

But Garrett, and a lot of other NFL coaches, just make horrible decisions all the time.

So many teams play not to lose. They would rather just punt the game away then try to win the game.

Also, guys like Coughling goofing up the Sunday Night game.. How many of us fans could've got the Giants the win? 99.9% of us?

How many of us could've got the Seahawks the Superbowl last year? 99.9% of us?

These arrogant all knowing coaches aren't as all knowing as they think they are.

the RBs are not the main problem right now,its the damn coaches who still think we can run againt a 8-9 man box.

Just like we did last year? The O line isn't playing nearly as well as last year but they are missing muscle in the backfield. The Rbs are a big part of the problem. Randle isn't a work horse. He's a nice change of pace back. McFadden? Not even sure why we signed him other than Jerry thought the name would put butts in seats. Dunbar was more of a slot receiver than RB. We have no back that can take control an help the O line. We did last season and it worked to perfection. Keep in mind even with a healthy Romo and Dez we needed Eli to be stupid to win the Giants game.

Probem is that with Weeden at QB and no Dez, we can't pass against an 8-9 man box either

If you cannot throw against a 9 man box....you do not have NFL players at QB and/or WR. And that is an organizational failure. At the very least....you have to be able to get a first down!. If it were not for a penalty in the first half....we would have had ZERO first downs in the first half.

No they did it in 2014

With the threat of Dez and Romo.

Also, a year of tape and tendencies are out there on us.

Most of our run stuff is finesse so if we just give away what we are doing with our formations and personnel then teams will just fly to the football, shoot gaps, and stuff the run in the backfield.

Don't believe me? Then just keep watching.

It's not that I don't believe you a all. It doesn't take away the fact that we have nothing but a change of pace back, a career looser and a guy ridding the bench in the backfield. Teams knew we were going to run on them last year and we did successfully.

That's fine but no space to run is no space to run.

Maybe Murray gets an extra yard at the end of some of these runs but Murray getting met at the LOS or in the backfield would have the same result as these guys.

Last year we saw huge holes consistently and this year we have just seen teams dare us to throw and our WR's can't consistently win their matchups.

Murray against the Cards last year had 19 rushes for 79 yards.. That was before every team knew all of our tendencies as well and we had Dez on the field that day. Seems very Joseph Randleish.

why stick with weeden, as bad as he is? are you there at practice talking to cassell? you speak as if you know cassell is a better choice. Linehan, and other coaches are there to assess and for some reason...not sure why I trust their judgement more than yours. he has been here for three weeks. and you want to go to the game against a defensive guru, with limited offensive players and 80% of the play book.!!!! wow. just wow.

and right now, this offense is limited. very limited. our WRs suck. they can't get off the line. the saints and now patriots have defended us rather easily? why, because they put 9 in the box. they blanket Witten with a safety and LB. and single up and press our WRs. Williams is an average 2nd WR at best, that now is the primary WR on the team. his repertoire is limited. Street's picture is on the milk carton. and Beasley is only a slot WR. I am not sure how innovative you can get with this set of WRs. so teams focus on stopping the run and pressure weeden, since none of these WRs can get off the line, much less get deep.

and I am tired of all this Michael talk. he was so fvcking good seattle let him go for next to nothing after spending a 2nd round pick on him. he ain't all that. as a matter of fact our RBs all are average. and I doubt if Murray could have done much as evident from his play in philly. with teams stacking the line, there is no room for running. this offense is going to suffer until we get Dez back and teams have to defend us dfiiferently.

btw, my concern is the defense. the Atlanta and NO game exposed this defense. we sucked in the 4th quarter. we were gassed. hopefully Hardy and McClain can help, but I can't express my disappointment in this defense. what happened to this defensive genius called Marinelli!!! we can't tackle. we take bad angles. we look lost. we can't consistently pressure. and we put all our eggs in Hardy basket. why isn't marinelli scheme a little better and get more out of this defense. we can't give up third downs at this rate and expect to stay in the games. we can't win shoot outs with this offense, so this defense better step it up.... or its the next DC that needs to come in and fix this thing.

RB is not really the problem with this team. QB and lack of #1 WR is the problem. Also, the OLine is struggling to run block.

All joking aside, I did want to see more carries from C-Mike. It is odd, especially once there was no chance of winning for him to not get another carry. I do wonder if Jerry mandated that Garrett use C-Mike on 3rd and short and that Garrett just does not want to use C-Mike for whatever reasons. Some people pointing out that C-Mike make some demonstration on the field after his run which might have annoyed the coaches. I thought they should have used Randle more last season just to get a better indicator of what he could or couldn't do but they just kept using Murray even in the final meaningless game of the season.

If Chaz Green had stayed healthy there's a good chance that he was a good pick. Free is terrible and if Brown had to play it would probably be worse. The Cowboys have stayed away from injured players in the draft more since McClay has been running things so I assume that they investigated Green's injury issues thoroughly and decided it was a good risk reward.

I think we can all agree, the OL isnt as good as fans thought it was. Callahan was a big loss and Murray did help the line look good, and we all better starting singing Romos praises.

Garett runs the team. Jerry runs the entire organization. Although Jerry allows Garrett to make football decisions ( who to play or bench ect), if he really gets upset he probably can just call Jason in and tell him " we need to play cassell". Who calls the shots - Garrett but Jerry can trump anything and everything unless it's with his son who will defer to ( his heir )
