Allen Rossum will be the kick and punt returner for the rest of the season now that he's signed on. He was wearing No. 27 on the practice field on Wednesday.
But how will the Cowboys alter their 45-man gameday roster?
Do they take two tight ends in Jason Witten and Martellus Bennett and leave John Phillips off? They can't do that because of how much they use the "12" package. An injury to either Witten or Bennett would mess that plan up.
They can't go lighter at wide receiver. They can't go lighter on the offensive line or running back either.
Now to the defense. Can they go lighter at defensive back? I can't see it. So it comes down to linebacker and defensive line.
Let's look at the defensive line. The Cowboys have kept six guys active. Junior Siavii, Jason Hatcher and Stephen Bowens are the backups and all play valuable roles. Maybe Siavii is vulnerable because he doesn't play as many snaps as the other guys, but then you're moving Marcus Spears or Igor Olshansky inside.
Now linebacker - Bobby Carpenter is the nickel linebacker. Victor Butler and Steve Octavien backup the outside guys and play a lot of special teams. Jason Williams has been active the last two weeks but doesn't play on the sub packages yet.
They have two weeks to figure it out, but I'd say it's Jason Williams is the one who sits.
