Excuse me if this has been brought up somewhere.

On the 3rd and 20, it looked like Romo was throwing to Witten and Williams came in at the last second. Did anyone in the media ask this? If so, what did Romo say?

From the article:
http://www.dallascowboys.com/news/a...s-Catch-/2c642c24-b7d4-41cd-bae1-b95f65626443
“It was a remarkable play, obviously. I had a pretty good vantage point on that,” Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said. “I don’t know who the heck he was throwing it to. Tony did a great job of buying time on that play.”

Indeed, Romo could have been gunning for either Williams or nearby Jason Witten on the play. Romo said it was intended for Williams, but Williams didn’t know for sure.

From another article:
http://www.star-telegram.com/2014/10/12/6195067/williams-two-big-catches-critical.html
“I rolled with [Romo] and he threw it,” Williams said. “It’s one of those things, if he throws it up, I’m trying to gain all his trust, so I’m going to catch it regardless.”

It appeared that the pass might have initially been intended for Witten, but Romo said it was going to Williams all along. He spotted him nearing the sideline and knew he had a tight window to fit it in.

“As I see it, I kind of see Witten and I see Terrance and I see their DBs,” Romo said. “The one DB plays pretty smart because he kind of backs off Witten for a sec and, in that moment, he’s going to try to get to Terrance if I shoot into him fast.

“So you try and get it over him, but make sure Terrance’s [defender] doesn’t have a chance to get to the ball and keep it inside. So you put it over the first guy and away from the second guy, and Terrance just did all the rest. He made a great play.”

As already stated, Romo did say it was intended for Williams. I thought it was also telling that Witten did not attempt to make a play on the ball..

I can't imagine Romo saying, "Yea, I over threw Witten, totally didn't see Williams there at all"

Romo broke it down pretty well in Post #3. Based on his explanation there, I don't see how there could be any doubt that he was throwing to TW.

Whether it was intended for Williams or not, what I think is an unrated observation about that play was the professionalism, the selflessness and mental sharpness of Witten. Witten was in the vicinity and could have made a play for the ball. He has the presence of mind (mental sharpness) to recognize Terrance Williams is going for the ball and is in better position to get it than he is, make a split-second decision NOT to interfere with Williams' efforts and, in doing so, let's the youngster get the glory (professionalism/selflessness).

Maybe I'm overanalyzing this play, but I think such split-second decisions speak more to what's in a man than obvious moments. I think Witten wants to win a championship, and he doesn't care about sharing the glory.

Clearly Witten didn't make a play for it because he's at the end of his rope

I don't think Romo would out and out lie about it like that. When watching the game I thought he overthrew Witten but with his explanation it makes sense that he was going to Williams.

I don't know that I would go that far, but I will say that he had enough presence of mind to slow up, and in doing so, blocked the defender who was covering him from getting to T-Will, too.

Love this quote. How can you not want to see this kid succeed?

Would love to see the all-22 on this play. Should answer any questions people may have.
