Who was the better player last year? Steele or Collins?

Objectively, Collins is a better player than Steele, but to his credit Steele allowed only two sacks (same as Collins) all season, playing 290 more snaps.

During Collins' absence, Cowboys implemented chip and double team better help to Steele's side until they felt he was more and more confident vs the better edge rushers and blitzes.
It helped mightily that we were able to run the ball, and he wasn't as more exposed in pass drops.

- To his credit to the improvement of Steele, he was just flat much more improved in pass protection overall than what he was in '21, and preseason.

But when healthy and top condition, there's no dispute in the better talent and better player with Collins vs Steele.
That was Lael.

- It will play a big part because in 2 minute warnings, hurry up and no huddle pass offenses, Steele is gonna be relied upon more and more to hold his own without double help
as a full time starter vs the better edge rushers this year.

Steele is a backup level player. It's embarrassing that this front office actually believes he should be the starting RT.

Overall, he wasn't.

Collins wasn't the same after his hip surgery. I think the Cowboys staff noticed it and elected to go with Steele. Hopefully, Steele might develop into a better run blocker with additional development. If not, he'll get some competition that he might be obliged to overcome. Also, Lael's actions with his phony testing and dysfunctional activities turned the FO against him.

Steele’s curve is going up, Laells was coming down and also availability, Laell was injured and missed most of the period also he got weight issues ( Fat) . So it was a good decision to cut bait, but I hoped a Veteren reliable OT as a swing tackle backup will be signed . The dark horse is Josh ball if he can come on and play decent we will be in good shape . ( Tyron we cant rely for full season )
