If the D is set like last year, then it's liely that James will by the designated "miked-up man".

I don't care who's wearing the helmet, as long as Belichick can't tap into the signal.

I'm also inclined to think it will be Bradie James with Ken Hamlin the alternate.

My bet would be Hamlin. Zach Thomas would be my second bet, but some of the packages may end up working against him and the other LBs.

it has to be somebody who will be on the field for basically every play so i would guess hamlin, ware, or maybe thomas.

Hamlin was in on damn near every snap last year. Condisering he's already the "coach" of the secondary it makes the most sense. Bradie is substituted entirely too often to get the helmet. I'd guess Hamlin and Ware. I'd bet there wasn't a single defensive snap last year that one of those two wasn't in the game.

Defensive communication enhanced

The NFL announced at the owners meetings that it has voted to allow one defensive player per team to wear an audio receiver in his helmet, the same way quarterbacks do.

The proposal passed by a 25-7 count, and should help to reduce the wide-spread practice of trying to lift signals from an opposing team's defensive coaches. For some teams, particularly those that play Tampa-2 fronts with smaller linebackers, it will be easy to pick who gets the headset since the "Mike" (usually the signal caller) or another off-the-line linebacker often stays on the field all three downs.

For other teams, like the Cowboys and other 3-4 teams, who substitute more freely, it will be more difficult. Last season, Dallas' inside linebackers were Bradie James and Akin Ayodele, who came off the field in sub packages, with Kevin Burnett and Roy Williams taking their spots. If that set up remained the same, that would mean James, the defense's signal-caller, and Ayodele would probably be out of consideration to wear the device.

Who could get it? Well, take a look at our accounting of defensive snaps from the playoff game, and you can come up with four players who were a staple in all defensive packages -- OLB DeMarcus Ware, CB Terence Newman, CB Anthony Henry and S Ken Hamlin.

It would make the most sense to give the device to an up-the-middle player who's off the line of scrimmage -- a safety or inside linebacker.-- so the call can be quickly communicated to everyone on the field in no-huddle or hurry-up situations. And that's generally the way it works anyway: Most defenses have a safety call the coverage and the "Mike" call the front. So in this case, while it is a bit complicated, I'd guess that Hamlin wears the headset.

Bobby is going to be wearing the spare head phones and carry a clipboard like the 3 rd QB does on most teams.

I think this Helment thingy takes away from the natural instincts and responsiveness of the MLB, when he thinks he'll be nagged/questioned in his earhole by the DC. Something to think about, IMHO

I'm pretty sure the earphone will be shut off during the play like the QB's earphone.

I thought i saw somewhere that he had a bad pro day.

I heard the same thing. He didn't work out at the Combine either. Nicked up according to reports but he had a 4.63 time, according to UNLV in the forty prior to his recent injury. If that's a true time, at 6-1 245 or so, that's not too bad for an ILB. What can I say Fuzzy, I' ve watched the guy play and I just think he's a player. When he hits you, it is violent. I really like this guy.
