This is not a good thing. TE don't lead offenses to titles as the main receiving threat. Williams should get more targets and catches than Witten if were serious about winning.

This is a different NFL where 12 personnel gets TE open on seam, post and flag routes on the regular. There are a litany of teams that use TE to this end. He is going to get matched up on a lot of LB. This offense uses a combination of downfield routes to make the S play honest and crossing routes in the middle of the field.

I will take Witten on a deep in matched up against any LB in the NFL.

The mindless fly and post routes is what Garrett and Callahan do. Linehan has a much more expansive offense. Linehan attacks all over the field. Downfield, underneath, the edges and middle of the field.

Do we have a new OC? Is Escobar starting? Martellus Bennett couldn't catch. It is what it is.

Please stop with the Bennett couldn't catch BS. The guy will probably put up higher numbers than Witten this year. They have been trying to master the two TE set for 8 years now and it just doesn't work for Romo.

His catch radius is terrible. He cannot catch balls outside of his breadbasket. If he has to reach then he has hands of stone. He got a lot of targets in Chicago but it still is what it is as it was evident in Chicago and NY the last two years.

These were Witten's numbers in 2013:

109 targets
8 TD/1 INT
40% first down rate
111.1 rating

If a QB had a 111.1 rating, 8 TD/1 INT, on 109 attempts, with 40% of those passes resulting in a first down, he'd probably be 3-0 or 4-0 and nobody would care about how much YAC was involved.

I'll say again, TEs don't lead teams to titles. Despite.what you'd like Witten to go up against, TES that catch that many pass typically fall short. If I'm not mistaken, the last.and maybe only TE to.lead a.team in catches or catch 80+ balls and win a SB was Sharpe with the Ravens. Witten is great, but will not lead us to the ultimate unless he's our 3rd or worsE pass catcher. We have too many playmakers to rely only on Witten to be Romo's consistent outlet to the tone of 80+ receptions and an 8-8 record. We're successful with Witten catching no more than 60 balls

Good question . . . who'll be #3 in receptions this season? Well, I'm thinking it'll be Witten. Some things never change.

I don't think there's any way Dez gets 125 catches, that's just insanely high. Probably closer to 100. I think Williams will be second and Witten third

Bennett has significant problems as a receiver when he was here regardless of the QB.

Nice meme but it doesn't have much substance. NO and NE have had two of the best offenses for the past 5 years whose offenses feature the TE. The offensive style produces points.

We have Dez Bryant who I imagine will have a monster season to lead us. Witten still is one of the most dominant route runners in the middle of the field the league has ever seen. Tony Romo is still the QB.

I think Witten's role will be reduced some and Dez will easily break the 100 catch mark.

For me I think we will have Dez than a cluster of players in that 40-75 catch range with Murray edging out Witten followed by Williams, Escobar and Beasley.

For this offense to be potent wittens role should be reduced. Unless you are a Graham, Julius, or gronk type. You should not get over 75+ catches.

Something is wrong if all you want to do is dink and dunk unless you are peyton

What has NE or NO won with those TEs? NOTHING and neither has Dallas with Witten.

For the Escobar lovers........LOL

Gavin Escobar - TE - Cowboys
Gavin Escobar was held without a catch on one target in Dallas' Week 1 loss to the 49ers.

The Cowboys have made noise about wanting to make Escobar a bigger part of the offense this season, but it wasn't evident on Sunday. Whatever Escobar's theoretical upside is, it's not enough to put him on the radar in re-draft leagues.
