Just watched A Football Life...Charles Haley

Remember we had a really good offense in 1991 and lost a playoff game big to Detroit. We had no character on defense until George Seifert made the mistake of trading Charles Haley to the Dallas Cowboys. Everything changed when he got to Dallas. He brought an intensity and a winning attitude that permeated the entire team, offense as well as defense.

We now have a good offense but our defense is completely suspect and our pass rush is expected to be anemic. So Cowboys fans, who will become our Charles Haley? Who is going to give this defense the swagger they need to really compete for a SB. My guess is Randy Gregory if he can get his head screwed on correctly.

I don't think R. Gregory has that kind of fire for the game.
May not be a 'Charles Haley'. That's quite a tall order.

agreed on gregory but he has failed drug tests multiple times.
unfortunately, that player may not be on the roster.
we can hope...

i also think the defense may need to be adjusted for gregory to protect him from getting injured.
i dont think we did Ware any favors moving him to RDE instead of 34 OLB.

What about Irving? He is a freak of nature and has a huge wing span. Also there is a lot of people claiming Tapper is a special athlete as well.

They will get their next Charles Haley once they trade for him. I don't think he will be drafted.

Irving only runs a 4.84 - may not be fast enough though some says he bends well.
Tapper may be fast but not agile - not much info on his agility.

I see Gregory has the best chance but he may not be playing at all...

It was Hardy. Jimmy would not have given up on this kind of player if he can help him win championships. That does not mean Jimmy would let Hardy attack his coaches or arrive late to meetings either.

Jimmy's idea of RKG and Garrett's differ quite a bit. And Jimmy was not adverse to jumping down his players throats to underline his expectations. Even Jimmy's stars feared him, Garrett scares no one. He's not as tough as he talks, like Parcells, Jimmy, Belichick.

Lawrence was the only DE who was able to get to the qb with ease...I guess he does not fit the description since he is finesse rusher.

Not sure anyone presently on the roster can fill those shoes. But you don't necessarily need a Haley. With a good rotation and an offense that dominates TOP, the Cowboys can win the division. In the Play Offs, the age old question is readdressed: which wins championship's, offense, defense or the team with the best balance of both...hopefully the Cowboys become the latter between now and then.

Believe it or not, we already have 'em. If Gregory can get his act together. He could easily be a similar player. Haley said so himself last year when he was tutoring him. Similar height and weight also.. Before the high ankle sprain, Randy was killing OL in preseason. I personally believe ole' Hardy negatively impacted Gregory too. Yes, Randy has to be his own person and turn things around. But is easy to believe a 20yo kid fighting his own demons being influenced by a successful veteran playing by his own rules. (This has been hinted around by the media, which is prob the real reason they won't "roll the dice" on Harfy again.
