They could rotate ratliff, but if he starts over spears, they must have someone else in mind. Wade had said at a interview at the OTAs that we had some young guys who could play nose, but didn't mention who they where. Thanks Prossman

There is a thread about this already.

My guess is Ratliff would move around the line. I would guess something like this.

Start: Ratliff Tank Canty
Mix1: Spears Ratliff Canty
Mix2: Spears Tank Hatcher
Mix3: More Hatcher and Bowman mixed in.

I would love to see dallas put Spears on the bench during passing situations and having ratliff in then. Then again didn't they do that with bowen and ( mind balnk) last year?!! Remi scares me but I know little about Saivia outside he is big. Prossman

I can't remember who said it, but Eatman or Spagnola or somebody said that the Cowboys thought Siavii had a real chance to make the team.

I think it's simple. If Ratliff is better than Spears, start him at LDE. When you look at the # of plays that the Cowboys have 4 down, you don't need a true backup NT for very many plays a game. And if Tank gets hurt, then you move Ratliff back.

There's some free agents we could look at who may be better than Remi/Junior.

Ted Washington (classic NT, about 400 lbs, old as dirt)
Rod Coleman (meh)
Babatunde Oshinowo (probably sucks, but I was interested in him coming out of college so I'll include him)
Grady Jackson (classic NT, old, past his prime, might be able to get something out of him)

Or, we could be idiots and bite on the Franchised Haynesworth.

I don't get the big deal.

Ratliff is really good. If Tank turns out to be really good, too.. your base 3-4D is so much better with Ratliff, Tank, and Canty on the line. I understand what you're saying, but you can't be 2 deep with Pro Bowlers at every position. It doesn't work like that.

Spears would make a great backup at DE. Just push NT. We could even sign a veteran if worst came to worse. I want the best players on the field - no matter what.

Even if Tank starts and Ratliff moves to end, Ratliff would still be the most likely to play NT when giving Tank a breather. The only other possibility beyond a darkhorse like Saviaii would be Spears if he would be willing.

This is the same as every personnel move and it is about getting your best players on the field.

Essentially Canty and Ratliff are the top 2 and then Tank is probably 3 with Spears 4, Hatcher 5.

That likely becomes the group in order of snap percentage.

It is possible Tank is in that top 2 group instead of Canty even.

Moving Ratliff is about getting TANK more snaps without reducing Ratliff's and that is really all it is about.

92 Ayodele, Remi DT 6-2 300 2 Oklahoma

64 Siavii, Junior DT 6-5 330 4 Oregon

These are the only ones being listed at T

I'd like to see something like this:

Starters - Spears, Ratliff, Canty (50% of base defense snaps)
2nd String - Ratliff, Tank, Canty (30% of snaps)
3rd string - Spears, Tank, Hatcher (20% of snaps)

As a percentage of snaps, it'd go:

Canty - 80% (like last year).
Ratliff - 80% (like last year).
Spears - 70% (slightly reduced).
Tank - 50% (increased).
Hatcher - 20% (like last year).
Bowen - Gone.

Only keeping 5 lineman would be sketchy~

You can keep another, but not necessarily activate him. Having flexibility with Ratliff allows you to do this.

As I pointed out, using 5 only increases Tank's snaps, which were minimal last year (sub 40%).

The Cowboys could try Spears over at NT as well. I thought he did a pretty decent job in backup NT role against the Skins in week 17. So they could rotate Ratliff, Tank and Spears so that both Spears and Ratliff see time at both NT and DE and Tank just playes the NT spot. The Pats have done that for awhile with Ty Warren, having him start at DE and then play some downs at the NT spot.
