Thought I would hate it. Actually enjoyed it. Smokes The Last Jedi for sure.

Glad you liked it. I'm sure parts of it were entertaining...but I think two hours of George Lucas' hairy butt mooning the camera would smoke the Last Jedi. That's not a good basis of comparison. lol

I talked with a friend who saw Rise of Skywalker. He said it was alright and fun to see in theaters, but even he had problems with it.. (And he's one of the biggest Star Wars fans I've ever known.)

From the previews, one of the biggest problems is...the explosion of the Death Star in RoTJ...there's NO way that much of the station could have remained intact...and if it did, the velocity incurred from the explosion and it's reentry into an atmosphere would have been an extinction level event for whatever planet/moon it hit.

I will say this was my least favorite trilogy. The storytelling was too fragmented. Sometimes hard to follow from movie to movie.

I agree mostly. Despite all the hits they take, I think the prequels were collectively better than the epilogues.

If they had an Adam Driver caliber actor playing Anakin that would have made a huge difference
Hayden Christensen will forever take it on the chin. I am not too critical of him playing the role but there were better alternate choices, both known and likely unknown actors.

I will say that I have wondered if Christensen would have been better received if he had played Little Ani in Episode One. Natalie Portman pulled off playing teenage queen extremely well. I think Christensen could have done the same.

I mean, why was it extremely necessary to have a preadolescent Chosen One anyway? He would have normally been too young to have been a Padawan youngling right? What would have been wrong tacking a few more years where he and Padme were both the same age? Their romance could have started as a mutual crush from the beginning--instead of her falling in love with the little boy she once knew.

Just ranting for Christensen's sake. :muttley:

I think they were asking for too much emotional depth for him. Probably a very hard role to cast because you are expecting more acting ability at a young age.

Conversely, I think Kylo was poorly written. Kylo could have been such a great character if the writing was more subtle. Its almost like they were asking Adam to go full throttle good, evil, conflicted, resolved on a whim. Though Adam really pulled off the key scenes, especially the ones with Ford

You're absolutely right. And that age thing threw the timing off completely. Blame Lucas, he insisted in having a child in that role so his adopted kids had an 'in'.

He certainly wasn't helped by the dry as crackers script writing for those movies.

It may be an unpopular opinion but I don't like the fact they've shoe-horned Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, et cetera, into these last two films. It such easy low-hanging fruit to include these characters as sort of a nod to the fans of the 80s. Just move the franchise forward; reference them in the film but we don't need to see Harrison Ford jumping and running around the screen in his late 70s.

I agree that this was his weakness from the audiences view. It just didn't work. But he got the job after Lucas saw his performance in Life as a House (2001). Where he played a whiney teenager. Very similar peformances. Lucas got what he wanted.

A valid complaint. And that disjointedness starts at the top, and I blame Kathleen Kennedy for that. I think she needs to be replaced.

Do you know why that hasn't happened already? People are doing with Star Wars what Cowboys fans do... Pay to see the content without demanding change instead of boycotting until change is implemented. :) It's hard to enact change when you're paying them hand-over-fist for garbage.
