I read in one of the articles a comment saying that JG was hard headed and wouldn't change fast enough and mentioned the kicker situation as an example. I assumed that the decision was up in the front office. Do you really think it was really up to JG to keep believing in a kicker that has missed 10 FG's this year?

Jerry has answered this question many times, as recently as today, yet some still want to find another scapegoat because Jerry can't be fired:

Basically, every decision the franchise makes goes through him as owner, so why hire another person to get involved?

They did sign him but what I had read was JG was the reason it took so long. That's why i asked the question. I know JJ is the obvious answer which is what surprised me when I saw it was JG.

Not just Maher but the ST coach needed to be fired. They had no problem firing the O-alone coach mid season last year. Likely because JJ said either Linehan or the O-Line coach goes..

JG is the HC and is therefore responsible for team performance

if he felt the kicker should be replaced he needs to put his foot down and make it happen

What kind of HC is he when he can’t even convince the FO to replace the freaking kicker?

Cheap kicker with a big leg.

F.O. probably felt so good hitting on a cheap kicker after Bailey that they never bothered to bring in any competition for a guy who was 68% on the road kicking field goals.

JG doesn't like to change. Its all about execution. Maher just needed to execute better.

This falls on the front office. at the minimum there should have been equal competition brought in during training camp. It is just another example of the Cowboys not aggressively looking to improve aspects of their team. Everyone outside the team knew Maher just wasn't good enough and could not be trusted in big moments.
