Why are Marenilli and Linehan still here?

Rod hasn't been given much to work with over the years, the defense is finally starting to get some decent players. Another good draft and Rod will have himself a top 10 defense.

Because it’s not false. Linehan runs a similar system yes. But explain how his teams in Detroit had running backs who had over 1000 yards receiving and Zeke has like 15 passes total in his career
It is false, Reggie was a exceptional screen runner, he wasn't the runner Zeke was, Detroit didnt have the line Dallas line, even still Scott tries to run screens here as well. It takes the right personnel to be a good screen team, he has adjusted to his personnel.

Linehan, the Cowboys' third play-caller in the past three years, is a friend and mentor of head coach Jason Garrett and he grew up in the same timing-based passing offense that Garrett did.

Bill Callahan, who called plays much of last season, was schooled in the West Coast offense. Obviously, he understood Garrett's scheme, but he never quite found a consistent rhythm calling plays.

Garrett took over the play-calling at the end of last season, but after a third straight 8-8 season he wanted a play-caller who would help his offensive system grow and evolve, while creating some excitement for the players with new ideas.

Linehan has done that.

His philosophical approach to offense is simple, and he believes in putting the ball in the hands of his best players.

1000 yards receiving? Who had that? 1000 yards receiving seasons for backs are extremely rare. Certainly no one has had one in the last decade that I can remember...

Rods been given chopped beef and was told to make it pass for a steak Dinner. To his credit...he's done well. Kris Richard is being groomed to be his replacement when he retires, which I expect will be next year.

You don't even know Cowboys history 101.

8-8?! LOL
.....lol... is that right. Since Linny and Marzy been here what have cowboys accomplished? 1 playoff win....Just one! Throw in a few seasons where they managed double digit wins and couple of playoff appearances. But gutted out or outcoached by the 2nd tier. How much more of this do you want? Or you haven't had enough? Well, no worries mate, 2018 will another dose of the Trio JG, SL and Marza (never let go Tampa 2) man.

Doesn’t Linehan technically have a pretty good track record here?
..no way. If other teams defense can say what the offense is going to run. That cant be good. Scott is just to predictable. Did you see Pederson in the SB? He kept NE guessing the whole game to the point of actually beating them. It takes brains to win and Scotty boy just doesnt have it.

It was a rhetorical question, he's had a top 5 offense in two of the four years he has been here. He's not infallible, but he is considered to be a good coach and would have no problem getting another job. He needs to come back strong in 2018, but acting like he hasn't done a good job overall in his time here is ignorant.

Amazing what a 9-7 season does to our analysis just one year removed from all of the accolades from a 13-3 season.

Our coaches in one year went to hell. Typical lazy evaluations from casual fans who fail to take in account the roster moves and absences in roster. 2017 team wasn’t the same as 2016. Different team produced different results.

You would think they forgot how to coach in just 1 year. I get the passion from the fans..but jeesh...these coord. we have are pretty darn good. I guess some on here think that the 13-3 record in 2016 was pure dumb luck? lol...or the record we had in 2014?...the thing is,as you know, players play...and must execute..and coaches coach...THEY DO NOT SUIT UP. Linehan is not the problem for the most part...neither is Garrett...its execution on the field and having our best players perform at big moments..They are young and are learning. Funny how fans are ready to toss out the entire staff after missing the playoffs by 1 game. Dunno how many here realize that...we were 1 game away from sneaking in. Even with all we had going on with this team on and off the field. A deep dive in retrospect, into the job the coaches did..they may have coached better than we think. To get to 9-7 was almost miraculous. Oh...and our DB'S were basically so young they were in diapers!!! Almost all rooks or 2nd year guys with a couple exceptions.

Give the guy what he needs!! Then if we all dont see results,we can fire him. Outside of Sean Lee(often hurt)...whats he got? Maybe DLaw if we can count on him for back to back years..but everyone else is comin off rookie years or very young. Get him a 1 tech stud, and I will show you a playoff defense. Starts up front.

It's not lazy when you can't capitalize or improve from the year before. What's lazy is just this sweeping generalization that every thing is fine.

Been calling for that big interior Dlineman for years. Can't get one when you're not looking.

Ever notice how the well coached also happen to be the teams that execute the best? Common man. This coaching staff isn't the worst in the league but its not going to win anything either.

Just some info to your point:

David Johnson almost did this in 2016.
The only RBs to reach the century mark as receivers are Roger Craig and Marshall Faulk.

Considering he’s now been allowed to add multiple coaches whom he has a history with, the next two seasons will likely be the make-or-break for Linehan.

Meanwhile, Marinelli is pushing 70yo and hinting retirement.

If/when either departs, for whatever reason, the act of changing a coordinator will serve as another excuse to keep Garrett.
