Why are the Cowboys being so conservative with the Cap?

Current cap space:
2015
8M nowMore if Carr takes a pay cut or is restructured, 8M more if Carr is June 1st cut
More is Dez signs a contract
More if Romo restructured.
About 30M if Romo, Lee, Witten and Carr restructured.
About 8M more is Dez signs a contract.

2016
54M without Carr, down to 39M if Dez franchised again
Only 41 under contract, but bottom 12 of 53 and practice squad about 10M
That's 29M with Dez franchised, 53 on roster and practice squad
The 29M does not including any restructures.
Crawford is the only significant FA
One thing that is interesting is that Romo's base salaries have averaged about 17M but in 2016 his base is only 8.5M.

2017
77M without Carr
Not many players under contract, but not much committed.
109M if Witten and Free are gone and Romo, Tyron and Lee restructured.

Without restructures, it would be a 2.5M cap hit in 2018 if Romo was cut before that season.

Summary: There seems to be plenty of room in future years that would allow money from 2015 to be restructured and pushed forward.

Maybe its who they're wanting to spend it on. They gave Dez the tag without hesitation. Dez has been more consistent than Murray.

Who really knows. A Hardy signing would be nice though especially if we have the room to push money fwd.

It seems as though they want to keep contracts as they are until a FA signing becomes imminent. Let's say they meet with Hardy and come to terms. ONLY THEN will they create cap space to fit him in. Not before.

The team really does not want to restructure Romo's contract, or so it seems.

If we see Carr deal redone, that will probably lead to a FA signing or two. But not before. That's my theory anyway.

There is plenty of money. and Jerry is more than happy not to spend it to help make the team better. and he and his son get nothing but praise from the local media, and from some fans, who thinks it's just great.yet the franchise has won nothing in going on 20 years. and there is no pressure to go out and get top free-agents anymore. Jerry must one happy man. he can put that extra money in his pocket.

Because the best player remaining is Murray and that's who they are focused on signing . After that they might look at Hardy . Anyone else isn't worth signing . Only desperate teams are going crazy paying top dollar for average players .

They are hamstrung this year because of uncertainty regarding Romo. I doubt they envisioned Romo playing at a 27 million dollar cap number in a year when both Dez and Demarco are free agents. That tells you all you really need to know about how long they truly feel Tony will be here.

The Cowboys also see deals for Fredricks and Martin down the line and want to get out of Romo's deal by the time it happens.

We should not restructure Romo or lee. Let's this play out. Get a deal done with dez and carr to get a pay cut. That's all we need.

Restructure of romo would be stupid.

Using your logic, Jerry is a very happy man; he is putting away all that money in the bank knowing, since he will live forever, he will have more resources allocated to his well-being for infinity and beyond.

Now, if you can make sense out of that, then you can understand why he is not blowing his wad the first few days of free agency.

This is why I don't concern myself with all the cap stuff. for one, we have a lot of fans on here that do that for some of us. LOL.
It seems to work itself out, and the FO can do what they want if they really want / need to. I just want quality players that can contribute.

Don't need to be bargain hunters all the time. But don't go to the store to buy dog food when it's on sale, or even at a high price because it's supposed to be quality, when you don't have a dog.
