Why are the Cowboys being so conservative with the Cap?

Stephen Jones does not want to get into a situation the Saints find themselves in today.

That's what happens when you pay Brees that amount and give Jairus Byrd $60M without blinking...like so many here wanted to do.

I would rather take my chances changing the way we do things so that we build a team that can be in the playoffs every year than investing ourselves back into cap hell for one appearance in the dance. I think our odds of getting a ring are much greater with the former, rather than the latter.

I feel like they are being conservative because they dont want to restructure Romo.

Yup. See Denver.

Or our triplicate years of 8-8.
You can go all in and suffer an injury somewhere to a big money guy and are left playing street free agents.
At least with the cheaper, deeper model the drop off after injury is minimal.
We are seeing a rash of guys signed to long-term deals and get cut 1 year into it.
That's terrible for team building.

The bottom half of the roster churn is still working...but sustaining a 12 win season remains to be seen, now.
