Why are we letting the defense off the hook?

Our D played excellent in the 1st half, but not dominant. The D allowed the Niners to drive down the field at the end of the 1st half and kick a long FG.

In the 2nd half the Niners scored 10 points in the 4th quarter. They gave up a 91 hard drive! I will say this though, the defensive holding on Hankins which would have been a sack was a killer. This almost never gets called. The Niners had a defensive holding earlier in the game, but did not get called for it.

Considering the Niners talent and scheme ( coaching) our D played very good overall, BUT we needed to play a little better considering how our offense and especially Dak was playing. With a couple more pieces this D can be truly dominant!!!

Also, if we would have had 2 extra days of preparation, I think we might have game planned a little better in certain areas. Example: Barr should not have been in slot with Iouk(spelling). Kearse, with injury, should not been 1 on 1 with Kittle.

YES they played good
What are you talking about? The defense played great. They allowed 16 points and kept the Cowboys in the game.

I don't blame them for pointing the finger of blame at the offense.

Dak shooting off his mouth and not coming through.

So our defense aggregate talent level B vs their offense aggregate talent level A minus should be called out for giving up one touchdown and four field goals in road playoff loss? I can't go there considering how average the DTs are and spare parts at one corner.

The defense still did enough to win, they held Kyle Shanahan's offense to 9 points for 3 quarters during the playoffs and you can't ask them to do much better than that. All Dak needed to do was to play efficiency and not turn over the ball and the Cowboys win that game by 2 TDs at least.

It’s not a defensive league. The league is built for offense.

On the road against Shannahan vs those weapons on short rest they played great.

Blaming them is absolutely silly and they shouldn’t have to pitch shutouts.
Do you think that Diggs should have made the pick? Do you think diggs should have tried to at least hit Kittle? If your answer is yes then the defense who played great is also complicit. If your answer is no than i dont know what to tell you

Yeah but you’re asking for perfection which isn’t realistic. They did more than enough against that unit.

Our offense is why we lost.

You’re just trying to be a contrarian or have just way over thought this. To the rest of the NFL world it’s obvious what the problem was Sunday.

really im not I just think people like to assign blame individually and its not that simple. while I agree the offense was the biggest issue and dak leads that group. Its not asking for perfection when the only thing you are known for is picks and one falls right in your lap and you drop it. Or all you need to do is hit the receiver instead of do a bull fighting olay. The team lost the offense was the biggest reason. yes if dak doesnt throw 2 picks there is at least 3 more on the board. if Maher can make it. Mahers struggles forced the cowboys to go for it and i think it also led to Pollard getting hurt and dak throwing pick. Not their fault its daks but if they were confident in maher i think that MM goes for the FG and pollard was still playing and he was literally the best weapon on the team

If Diggs makes that picks or tackle there is 7 less for san fran. So yes I feel it was a team loss and some can consider that over thinking

YES they played good, it's like someone flicked a switch and said, it's time for the offense to be dominant we're taking a break until next game!

Was it asking too much for the defense to continue to do well against the 49ers? Their first drive after halftime it was evident they made adjustments, and the defense that played well all first half stayed in the same game plan.

So we're putting a lot of blame on the offense, let's give like 2% to the defense!!
LOL
Defense played lights out other that tissue boy Diggs

What you’re not understanding though is that when you’re paid like Dak is you can’t just share the blame equally. That got thrown out the window when he signed a deal that asks him to carry the team.

dude I dont give 2 shats what dak is paid thats not the point of thread the point is the defense had a role in it. Yes dak didnt elevate the team enough to win and in fact contributed to the loss but to say dak gets paid 40 mil its his fault is simpleton BS.

The fact that he got paid what he did isnt his fault its jerrrys. he sliterally 8th in league its what QBs get paid, My point is defense isnt blame free and i think anyone that its agenda driven should see it

The D held the Almighty 9ers to 6 points after the Prescot interceptions. If Prescot would have just player an AVERAGE game you'd be watching the Boys in Philly on Sunday, but once again Prescot imploded AGAIN in a meaningful game with his numerous off the mark passes. If Purdy played for the Cowboys on Sunday the Boys win that game too! Prescot and his lousy play is killing this team.................

You could not ask for a better performance from the defense considering they were facing the supposed best offense in the league. CMC was shut down until it came time to pound the game away. Outside of Diggs, the defense showed up, did their job, and it was a championship type performance.

Can’t really knocked the defense, especially when they had to defend two INTs. They were being kept on the field a lot with the offense turning the ball over and sputtering. They started wearing down late in the fourth quarter as San Francisco started imposing their will but they played good enough to win the game. We only gave up 19 points. Our offense/QB simply didn’t show up.

Maybe cause the defense held the 49ers to 19 points with Deebo, CMC, Aiyuk, Kittle, Juszyck?

they made plays when opportunity was there. held us to 12 points. we didn't. Diggs dropped a sure interception. they caught 2. we had a chance to stop a big play with a simple tackle, we whiffed (Diggs). we had penalties for unnecessary reasons and gave them new life. they didn't.

yes, it was only 19 points. but should have been 9.

Diggs made 2 plays that didn't look good. Both were reactionary plays were he was perhaps 100th of a second too slow to react. As a whole they were fantastic. My god, we gave up 19 points with 2 turnovers. It was obvious once Pollard went down we had one playmaker in Lamb and frankly that's all that Dak looked at once Pollard was gone.

I think Kellen needed to sit him down and read to him from the good book. I don't think Dak ever gets tough love. Purdy almost gave away a field goal at half time and Shanahan was beating him over the head with a frigen hammer.

Apparently Dak can't take hard coaching or Kellen and McCarthy are wimps. That's also why Kellen won't be a head coach next year in the NFL.
