simple, scheme, he fit the 3-4 D Parcells has implemented in Dallas, Akin, as a DE in college, and in certain situations with the Jags, lined up with his hands on the ground in a 3-point stance and rushed the passer, and as an OLB in the Jag's 4-3, turned and ran in coverage, although he's just average in that department, and made plays in space, both requisites of the 3-4 D Parcells is running, and add the fact that he's only 26, he's still growing as a player while being somewhat established...

before Akin, Parcells signed Kosier because he's versatile, a Parcells' trait for Olineman, and can pull and trap, another quality Parcells holds dear in his Olineman, and in the same case with Akin, Kosier is only 27, and he too is still growing as a player...

notice I've drawn a similar line between these 2 signings? Parcells has a plan, he doesn't just pick names out of a hat, and this is why so many people are confounded by most of his moves, hope this helps some of you guys, and you know who you are...

Last I checked he's coming here to be an ILB, not an OLB.

I heard Parcells has said that he'll expirement with him at both OLB and ILB
positions for Akin actually.

It depends on the formation and the down and distance.

That's what makes him an asset. We don't tip the formation or the Lber coverages by having him in there. Or who's coming from the Lber position to rush.

I felt that that ended up being a real detriment for Ware as the season wore on as we didn't really have another bookend LBer on the opposite side to compliment him,..

..so offenses only had to deal with him.

That neutralized him considerably as the season went 16 games.

This is not a game-changing player like many of us want at this point. But Akin is a solid piece of the puzzle and fill a huge hole at this point.

And I also agree, his age is a significant factor to me. And his experience. He should be able to play the 3-4 well.

But I'm going to wait and see.

We gushed so much about all our FA's last year at signing and then watched them drop off the radar one by one as the season played out.

So before we crown any of these guys as big answers, I'd like to see them play for awhile, thanks.

As has been mentioned, there is a reason these guys are let go by teams who aren't wanting to let go of their core players.

So there is always a question mark.

I'm guessing there's about 17 million reasons why Ayodele became a Cowboy.
