Why Can't fans accept the facts about Spencer?

If you think Rob Ryan or any defensive coordinator that is going to walk into Valley Ranch and have some presumption that Spencer is worthless let alone tell Jerry what to do with him then your off your rocker.

Why would Ryan have to tell him that Spencer sucks? It's probably right there in his file for under he season evaluations by Pasqueloni. It's obvious to anyone who breaks down film, which is why offensive coordinators have absolutely no qualms leaving even the most mediocre to below mediocre right tackles alone to block him one on one while throwing the kitchen sink at Ware.

Spencer isn't the head coach's pet cat anymore, and he's in his final year of his rookie contract and he's done absolute zilch to warrant an extension. Ryan has no loyalty to him. I don't expect Spencer to be run out of town, but he might actually have to earn a starting spot and playing time for the first time in his mediocre career.

He just signs EVERYONE'S check. I love the conception that now that Jerry has given power to Jason that he has relinquished all control and interest over this team.

Suddenly now Rob Ryan will have majority control over Jerry...........

I doubt that they are bringing in a new defensive coordinator just so Jerry can tell him no and dismiss all of his opinions.

Im not sure where you got the idea that Jerry is in love with Spencer and has made him untouchable to the new defensive coordinator.

Anthony Spencer will be the starting OLB next year and when his contract is up Dallas will evaluate his situation. The sooner everyone gets used to the idea the sooner we can find another player to complain about.

Does Dallas need to address the situation and work to find someone not only to add depth but to be an upgrade? Sure, and while they are at it there are 21 other positions they should be doing that for at the same time.

How many times does this tripe have to be poured forth by the Spencer apologists? Greg Ellis averaged double digit sacks for two years in Wade's system opposite Ware, and he was being substituted out for Spencer for a good portion of snaps . The year before that Merriman and Phillips both had double digit sacks in San Diego under Phillips. Other SOLBs had no trouble getting double digit sacks with the "opportunities", funny how there suddenly weren't "opportunities" as soon Spencer started playing the position.

If anyone doesn't get "opportunities" it's Spears because he gets pulled in nickel packages. Spencer plays all three downs, including nickel packages, and rarely leaves the field. He also plays opposite the NFLs premiere outside pass rusher who draws an indordinate amount of slide protection, TE double teams and RB chips. The next time Spencer sees a double team will be his first.

Spencer doesn't average 4 sacks a season because he doesn't get "opportunities", he averages 4 sacks a season because he's mediocre at best and offensive tackles can block him easily in a one on one matchup.

This post nails it.

If the guy was even getting the same kind of pressure Ellis was I'd be happy if the sacks werent there.

He's just not a very good pass rusher.

It's to the point where I would try Butler more on 3rd downs.

Gosh, I hope they can properly evaluate him as a pass rusher since "hez dontz getz enuf of teh pass rushing opportunitiezz!!!111ONEZzz111"

The extent of your argument is "yo guys playing strongside rush end is hard" followed by some statistics you made up like "Spencer isn't even rushing half the time Ware is".

B-I-N-G-O

I've been a big Spencer supporter since his days at Purdue...3 sacks in 15 games ain't gonna do it.

"I think he's been down from a production standpoint in terms of his sacks, but he's certainly showed up," Garrett said of Spencer. "He's playing hard, defending the run well and just continuing to grow.
"Just because you don't have the sacks doesn't necessarily mean you're not showing up. He's pushing the pocket well and affecting the quarterback."
Hardly sounds like a coach who is ready to just throw a player in the trash heap. Also sounds like a football person compared to some here. You know, understanding the game and the position is more then numbers in the sack column but it would take an expanded mind to grasp that.

I don't think Spencer is going anywhere, but I hardly take this as a ringing endorsment from Garrett. Garrett also had nothing but complimentary things to say about MBIII after he took over as head coach.

and on the flip side it's him saying the exact opposite of

"OMG he suckz, no double digitz in the sack statz, hes outof position all the timez. Hes stright trash"

Far more complementary then anyone here is willing to give him credit for and basically addresses many of the complaints at the same time as his strongest attributes

Nobody said he wasn't effective on 1st and 2nd down.

I'm not sold on Spencer either way. I thought he played very well in '09 and I thought he played pretty good once Garrett took over. But, he was *awful* under Wade this season. He was really selfish, losing gap responsibility in order to make a big play and teams capitalized on that.

To me, I'd keep him around, but I want competition for him next season, hopefully from Butler. So many of these guys need to prove that they are worthy of they hype and accolades.

It will be interesting to see what we do if Quinn falls to #9 in the draft.

You jump on him even if you had two Ware's.

Never have enough pass rushing stud OLB's in a 3-4.

DE's are important in Ryans scheme. Im loving what I'm hearing about Quinn and leaning towards him over anyone else right now.

Including PP.

Spencer needs competition. We should be looking for a pass rusher in the draft.

Ryan loves to play a 4-6 with 3 OLB's on the field.

Either way, you can never have enough pass rushers.

I am far from being a football genius, but my 25 years of broadcasting it, being in countless meetings with coaches on several levels, and having a wee bit understanding of the games nuances, tells me that Spencer didn't play as well this past season as some of us want to think. I enjoy so many of your posts here, but those of you who matter-of-factly know way more than the rest of us peons, is nauseating. If you're that bright, then leave us blind folk to wade in the dark, while you take your superior knowledge to an NFL club. We'll be okay without your high-mindedness.
