If you want to just be a typical message board poster that can't admit being wrong, that's fine, but other posters would respect your future opinions if you just go ahead and admit that you over-stated it.

The projection. It burns.

Beasley had one down year when he was getting doubled and our offense was in shambles. And even counting that year, he was significantly better per target than Cobb over the last 4 years. And he was very much better than Cobb in their most recent year.

The NFL spoke on their relative value. Both free agents this year, Cobb got significantly less.

6.3 yards per target last year. If you like that, live it up.

Beasley's 7.29 Yards/Target is NOT "significantly better" than Cobb's 6.76 Yards/Target over the past 4 years.

Beasley had a down year in 2017. Cobb had a down year in 2018.

Beasley 2017 vs Cobb 2018:

Yards/Target
RC: 6.28
CB: 4.98

Yards
RC: 383
CB: 314

Targets
RC: 61
CB: 63

Cobb was smart not to sign a multi-year deal coming off a down year due to an injury.

Beasley
AAV 7.25M
Percent of contract Guaranteed 37%

Cobb
AAV 5M
Percent of contract Guaranteed 80%

*All* our returning TEs and WRs beat Cobb in yards per target last year. Even Rico and Noah.
He gets 40+ yards per game, but the efficiency per target was poor, and even his yardage totals have been consistently sliding for years.

People are talking like he's a lock for the team, and I don't see it in these numbers. He looks like a Nolan Carroll. We signed thinking to cover ourselves, but don't have to stick with him if other guys are panning out.

I'm hoping they get a discount out of Hurns and use him as our slot possession WR.

jag to replace jag. we knew this when we picked him up.

Reasonably priced high reward potential if healthy. 1 year deal, no long term cap damage

Cobb isn't great by any means.

He is serviceable and relatively cheap.

We are a run first team with 2 good WR's on the outsides. He will play is role just fine,

FINALLY! We act like Cole was great.. he just served his purpose. Nothing more nothing less.

If Cobb is relatively healthy, the move is a slam dunk. Beasley is very good at what he does underneath but Cobb offers more versatility as a WR which makes him a more dangerous threat overall.

The thing about snagging a guy like Cobb is that Rogers might have been making him look better than he really is...

Cobb isn't even close to Beasley as a player IMO, and their market values showed it.

The bigger deal is that we were barely even using Beasley by season's end. If you look at all our games after the bye, excluding Week 17 when all our starters sat, he averaged 25 yards per game. And he followed that trend almost perfectly in the playoffs with 4 catches for 41 cards across two games.

After Cooper joined the offense, Beasley really just got phased out. Zeke was taking up more and more of the underneath work, Coop was feasting, and Gallup was starting to come into his own on the outside. Couple that with a run-heavy game plan and there was just nowhere to go for Beasley outside of catching a few checkdowns. Buffalo offered him way more than he was worth to us, and Beasley wasn't happy with the Cowboys even in the best of situations, so it was easy to let him go.

Cobb isn't Beasley, but he doesn't have to be Beasley. All he has to do is run some hitches and slant routes and replace Beasley's 25 YPG - that's about 400 total yards on the season. If he can provide that, we didn't get worse.

That's a big part of it, and also to improve the abysmal red zone numbers. Nobody should forget that we were among the worst in the league in that area and it was a key reason for the team's struggles. More than anything else, that's what Garrett and Moore are tasked with changing and improving.

Having two seasoned vets in Cobb and Witten to help the young quarterback is a nice start. As is getting your All-Pro center back in the middle.
It can only help.

Why Cobb? Because Jerry personally saw him beat us in the past, just like RW II. Fortunately, unlike Roy, Cobb’s cheap and expendable.

His yards/reception the past 4 years are better than Beasley (11.0 vs 10.3) and better than Witten (11.0 vs 9.7).

Small Sample Size
Rico and Jarwin don't have enough catches for yards/reception to be meaningful.

Outside WR vs Slot WR

Cobb/ Beasley are slot WRs. Slot WRs have lower yards/reception than outside WRs.

Cobb was much better than Beasley earlier in his career and his "declining" years have still been better than both Beasley's career yards/reception and Beasley's past 4 years.

Beasley (past 4 years):
yards, receptions, average
2355, 228, 10.3

Cobb (past 4 years):
2675, 243, 11.0

Beasley (career):
3271, 319, 10.3

Cobb (career)
5524, 470, 11.8

yards/reception
Beasley
8.5 2012
9.4
11.4
10.3
11.1
8.7
10.3
2018

Cobb
15.0
11.9 2012
14
14.1
10.5
10.2
9.9
10.1
2018

Everything was fine until you brought math to the party.

I honestly don’t think his roster place is secure and he may be a surprise cut for some of these posters when the coaches see first hand how his skills have declined.

So, you're saying, "He left a lot of corn on the Cobb?" .. as opposed to meat on the bone? :D

If you have to explain it, then you're doing stand-up to the wrong audience.

But it was funny.
