I saw this too on the all 22, they were just letting dline go by and getting up field to the 2nd level.

This was the strategy Eberflus used to smoke us. Makes sense. We have better quality at LB than at DT.

Maybe this is the structural flaw in Marinelli's scheme.

It can be beat by letting the defense get upfield *outside your run lane* and then getting 2nd level blocks on the LBs. DTs take themselves out of the play and you get the LBs block equals lots of easy running.

Give the defense the upfield rush they're trying to get in places where it suits your run call. Let them take themselves out of the play and block a LB.

Cook had 97 yards on 26 carries for a 3.7 average as the leagues leading rusher. You take out the one 23 yard carry and he was 74 for 25 or a 2.9 average. The few times he got in space defenders bounced off him. They didn't run over, over match or take advantage of an imaginary 1tech deficiency. They were just persistent in running the ball and our offense did nothing to force them out of that game plan!

From the board thought he averaged 6 yards a carry. Yes he caught some passes but that is because of a stupid scheme of being aggressive and over running plays and all of what Cousins completions came from short passes.

Nobody told them it was tackle football. Our defense thought they were playing two hand touch football.

When he got out in space it was horrible. People were bouncing off him like a pinball. He's only 5 10 and 210lbs so they may not have been expecting it. His center of gravity is phenomenal... Emmitt Smith level but faster!

Because those idiots don't know how to tackle. Tell you the truth this team has not had an edge too it since the Purple dranker has left. He set the tone early and often.

You know, I know it's popular to say, it's Marinelli, and I get that, but.........

I think it's important to remember why Marinelli was brought here. He was brought here to do more with less. Remember, Jerry and the team were tired of paying high salaries for DTs. They brought Marinelli in to do more with less. I mean, you can really only do that to a point before the talent catches up with you. If you look at that scheme, where you shoot gaps and try to be disruptive with your DL, lots of stunting etc. you expose your LBs. Look at the LBs we have drafted. Good talent, no question about that but, none of them are physical run stopping LBs. They are run and chase LBs and that's a problem if you aren't going to bring in the talent at DT to cover up your LBs. This, to me, isn't necessarily a problem with the players as much as it is with the decision we have made from a personnel perspective. We fell in love with great athletes at LB but forgot that we need to have a guy who can meet a Guard in the hole and plug it. That LB is critical to the run and chase guy because if you don't stonewall that OL at the LOS, he gets to the second level and creates a lane for the RB. We are not physical at the point of attack.

Anybody who doubts this, just watch how we played the Vikings Run Game. Watch ho poorly we played a team who had a FB who knows how to lead block. I mean, how in the world do you get to the Pros where you don't even know how to play defense against a FB lead blocking run game. They had no clue. How does this happen? I suppose it's because teams don't run anymore and when they do, they do it as a change of pace to the passing game. I just couldn't believe it but I saw it so I know it's true.

I seem to remember the Cowboys doing great and playing great with guys like BOB LILLY and RANDY WHITE, and RUSSELL MARYLAND, and LEON LETT.

Why move away from filling that position with Greatness???????

Our dline scheme is number 1 rush the qb and if we happen to see the rb with the ball tackle him. This is Rob defense Kris might be just calling plays in Rob playbook.

I think he use to say "STOP THE RUN ON THE WAY TO THE QB". All the STUNTING we do surroundings lineman to get to the linebackers. Good teams will exploit that like the rams and Vikings did. Don't think we have enough talent DT either.

Did their run game kill us? They had some ok runs we failed to tackle but overall they averaged 3.7 a carry, that's not great. They made some big plays in the air and scored. That was the difference.

We couldn't stop the screens.
Their RB had about 90 yards on screen plays.

Our linebackers were whiffing on first contact literally almost every running play. LVE and Jaylon couldn't tackle Cook last night if he was in a wheelchair.

I did notice on a few plays where the interior got some good penetration but it basically allowed the Minnesota OL to advance to the second level and maul us.
I got a visual in my head seeing LVE and Jaylon diving at a senior citizen in a wheel chair only to see them spin off of the wheel chair as the wheel chair person rolls for another 10 yards. lol

As a team they averaged 4.3. Don't forget that their backup did well rushing 8 times for 52 yards (6.5 ypc).

horrible tackling.

what's troubling is that's the worst thing that can be said of a run defense

the let down vs the run did surprise me after they final slowed Barkley down ...

I did expected Dak to out produce Cousins and Delvin to out produce Zeke
... but not near the extremes we saw last night

Because not every team in the league has a RB that gets tackled easily by 1 man on every play like ours.
